5 Gadgets No One Should Leave Home Without

We live in a day and age swimming in technology-that’s a body of water I’ll happily wade in any day. People are constantly connected to their work, the world, even kids at home, and today-no matter how long or short of a trip-gadgets are a must. So without further ado let the countdown begin:

GPS

No matter the distance, a GPS device will get you from point A to point B without worry. I live in Saginaw. Combine that with a severe lack of internal orientation and when I go out driving for fifteen minutes I might end up in one of the most dangerous areas in the country. Luckily, my handy GPS guides me to my friend’s house instead of the ghetto.

iPod

No device functions quite like an Ipod. With a relatively endless capacity for music and video storage, this gadget is great for any trip. Especially on the subway or bus system in more urban areas, this little wonder can pass the time. If you aren’t a huge fan of music, you can sync podcasts with your favorite news or comedians, download movies and watch them as you wait, or even play solitaire.

Headphones

Good headphones are essential for travelers. They can block out irritating noise and they can be taken and used anywhere. At hotels with free computer access, I make sure to bring my headphones in case of audio. Sometimes I use music to put me to sleep and headphones easily fill that role. The best thing is that they don’t have to be Skull Candy or some other expensive brand-a $5 pair of headphones is fine.

Smart Pad/ Tablet

Whether you go Apple or some other brand, tablets are just plain fun. They can be used for reading books, playing games like Angry Birds, checking Facebook, watching funny videos, or really anything else just short of a laptop. While a laptop might be better for the longer trips, tablets are fun and perfect for anything less.

Cell Phone

It doesn’t have to be a smart phone, but it has to be usable if you find yourself in the middle of nowhere. A working phone can save a life and this, above all, should be something you take with you on any trip. Plus you can order pizza or take-out on the way back home for convenience!
