2012 Westminster Dog Show Commentary: Guiding Light Wins Bedlington Terrier Best of Breed

Kaylynn’s Kennels did it again this year and won the Westminster Dog Show Best in Breed, Bedlington Terriers. Last year the kennel had the best in breed winner with Kaylynn’s Party Crasher, known to his friends as Snoopy. His kennel mate, Kaylynn’s Guiding Light, took the Award of Merit.

For the 2012 Westminster Dog Show, Guiding Light stepped up to win Best in Breed. She went on to compete in Best of Group where she failed to make the top four. Guiding Light is a dog to watch for the upcoming year. She has the potential to do remarkably well this year.

Kaylynn’s Guiding Light

GCH Kaylynn’s Guiding Light was born on May 5, 2009. She is a half brother to Snoopy, who won Best of Breed at Westminster in 2011. The two dogs share the same sire, CH Kaylynn’s Made in the Shade. Guiding Light took the Award of Merit for the Bedlington Terriers at Westminster in 2011.

One of the unique facts about Guiding Light is that her owners and handlers are the same individuals. Usually in the show dog world, owners hire professional trainers to handle their dogs at the shows. In the case of Guiding Light, her owner, handler and breeder are one in the same. Sheila, Renee and Elyse Beutler are the breeders responsible for bringing Guiding Light, Party Crasher and other high quality Bedlington Terriers into the show arena.

Four-year old Guiding Light is a champion. She is attentive and lively in and outside of the show ring. Her coloring is gorgeous. The darker flanks are set off by her lighter coloring on the back, head and feet. Guiding Light seems to float along the show ring floor. Kaylynn’s Kennels are a force to be reckoned with in the Terrier group. Look for them to be strong competitors in the 2013 Westminster Dog Show. As the Bedlington Terrier has not taken a Best in Show since 1948, they are statistically due for a win, and this kennel is producing extremely strong competitors.

Why I love Bedlingtons

I first fell in love with the Bedlington Terrier breed when I saw them at the Westminster Dog Show. They look like little lambs. In 2011, a situation came up at the shelter where I volunteer. A Bedlington Terrier was in need of a foster home. That is when I took him in and later adopted him.
