2012 Volkswagen CC Facelift: Engine Range and New Technologies

The new 2012 Volkswagen CC facelift is almost here and after earlier we talked about the car’s exterior and interior styling, it’s time to take a closer look to its technology, safety and comfort features and, of course, to what’s under the bonnet.

The European version of the 2012 CC will be powered by a range of petrol and diesel engines, a novelty being that all turbocharged diesels (TDI) will come with the Start/Stop system as standard. The gasoline options include three choices, a 1.8-liter TSI delivering 160 hp (118 kW), a 2.0-liter TSI producing 210 hp (155 kW) and the top of the line 3.6-liter V6 delivering 300 hp (220 kW). The 210 hp engine can be combined with the dual clutch DSG automatic transmission while the top of the line unit, that delivers 300 hp, is offered with the DSG transmission and with 4MOTION all wheel drive as standard. And speaking of the all wheel drive system, the press release mentions that the two diesel units, delivering 140 hp (103 kW) and 170 hp (125 kW), will also get it, as an option, later this year.

The most fuel efficient unit is the 140 hp version of 2.0-liter diesel engine, which takes only 4.7 liters per 100 km (60.1 mpg) and releases 125 grams of CO2 per kilometer. The 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint is made in 9.8 seconds and the top speed is 214 km/h (133 mph). On the other hand, the most powerful unit is the 3.6-liter V6 that produces 300 hp at 6,600 rpm and 350 Nm of torque between 2,400 and 5,300 rpm. The 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration is made in 5.5 seconds, the top speed is electronically limited at 250 km/h (155 mph). Fuel consumption is 9.3 liters per 100 km (30.4 mpg) and CO2 emissions level is 215 grams per kilometer.

The new 2012 Volkswagen CC comes with an impressive list of new standard and optional features, including bi-xenon headlights with washing system, fatigue detection system, cornering lights, LED taillights, LED license plate illumination, Easy Open system that allows the opening of the boot lid by moving the foot under the car’s rear, Dynamic Light Assist, new radio system, adjustable head restraints, a new leather-wrapped steering wheel, laminated safety glass for the side windows, which increase soundproofing, and seat belt status indicator system that shows the driver which seat belts are buckled up.
