WWE- the Legacy of Stone Cold Steve Austin DVD Review

Stone Cold in my opinion is the 2nd greatest wrestler of all time. Hulk Hogan made professional wrestling mainstream, but Stone Cold saved it at a time when wrestling was stale. Especially in the WWF at the time. This was the 3rd dvd on Stone Cold to come out. This 3 disc set came out in 2007, and clocks in at 9 hours long. This set was 30 dollars at the time, but now you can pick it up cheaper of half the price.

Disc 1

The Hollywood Blondes vs Dos Hombres at Slamboree 5/23/93- This was a steel cage match for the WCW tag team belts. Ricky Steamboat and supposedly Shane Douglas were the Dos Hombres under the masks. This was good but it wasn’t there best match up. Tom Zenk was actually under the mask. I give it a 7/10.

Stunning Steve Austin vs Flyin Brian Pillman at Clash of the Champions XXV 11/10/93- The Hollywood Blondes broke up, and this was the match that would settle the feud. There was a lot of brawling then wrestling. I give it a 7/10.

Stunning Steve Austin vs Ricky Steamboat at Clash of the Champions XXVIII 8/28/94- This was for the United States heavyweight title. This was another great match both men had. Its a shame there series of matches went unnoticed, because of Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair’s matches. I give it a perfect rating.

Promos- These were the infamous promos Steve cut during his short time in ECW. The first promo he does a spoof of Hulk Hogan. The second promo is were he talks about WCW. How they kept him down and fired him. I give these promos a perfect rating.

Mickey Whipwreck vs Steve Austin vs Sandman on ECW 12/9/95- A triangle match for the ECW world title. This was Austin’s last match in ECW, and it wasn’t his best. There was a lot of brawling going on, but still good to watch. I give it a 7/10.

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Savio Vega at Beware of Dog 2 5/26/96- This was a Carriabean Strap match that was there second. There first one happened in the dark, and nobody saw it. The WWF saw fit to have a rematch to make up for it. This was a great match, Steve and Savio always had great matches together. I give it a perfect rating.

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Bret Hart at Survivor Series 11/16/96- The winner of the match would be the number 1 contender for the WWF world title. Bret was coming off almost 7 months rest and showed he still can wrestle. Steve also showed that he can wrestle as well since his character was a brawler. I give it a perfect rating.

Extras

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Yokozuna at Summerslam Free For All 8/19/96- Nothing special in this match. Yokozuna tried to do his banzai drop but couldn’t. Steve took advantage and won. I give it a 5/10.

Stone Cold/Terry Funk Confrontation- This was a talked about conflict between these guys, who had the reputations of being tough texans. This was at Shotgun Blues which was in Texas. I give it a perfect rating,

Steve talks about the name Stone Cold. I thought this was funny, because the WWF gave him a poor selection of names to choose from.

Disc 2

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Undertaker at Cold Day in Hell 5/11/97- This was a good match, but both men had to fight the Hart foundation as well. They were in the first row trying to distract both wrestlers. I thought this was funny and good. I give it a 8/10.

Stone Cold Steve Austin & Shawn Michaels vs Owen Hart & British Bulldog on Raw 5/26/97- An awesome tag team match up. Steve and Shawn put there hatred aside, for there mutual hatred for the Hart Foundation. I give it a perfect rating.

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Shawn Michaels at King of the Ring 6/9/97- A great match, that gets overlooked by there Wrestlemania XIV match. I give it a perfect rating.

Stone Cold Steve Austin & Dude Love vs Owen Hart & British Bulldog on Raw 7/14/97- A really short match that was still fun to watch. I give it a 7/10.

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Owen Hart at Summerslam 8/3/97- This was the infamous match, were Owen broke Stone Cold’s neck with a botched piledriver. The match was really great up until that point. I give it a 8/10.

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Dude Love at Unforgiven 4/26/98- Another awesome match that gets pushed aside with there match at No Mercy. I give it a perfect rating.

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Kane at King of the Ring 6/28/98- A first blood match, with the stipulation that if Kane loses he’ll set himself on fire. This was another wild and wacky match with great brawling. The Undertaker comes out in the end to draw Austin’s blood. I give it a perfect rating.

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Kane on Raw 6/29/98- There rematch with Stone Cold ending Kane’s short title reign. I give it a perfect rating.

Extras

Mr McMahon- Steve talks about his feud with Mr. McMahon, and how it changed professional wrestling. This feud propelled the struggling WWF over WCW in ratings and merchandise.

Disc 3

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs The Rock at Backlash 4/25/99- A no holds barred match, that was off the charts. Steve and The Rock always had great matches with each other. I give it a perfect rating.

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Eddie Guerrero on Smackdown 11/16/00- I think this was more of a filler match. This wasn’t Steve’s best match but it was okay. I give it a 7/10.

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Triple H at Survivor Series 11/19/00- A no disqualification match that had a lot of brawling, and a perfect endind. I give it a 9/10.

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Triple H at No Way Out- A three stages of hell match. The first fall would be in the ring. The second fall in a street fight. The third fall would be in the cage. This is the best match on the dvd to me. Both men showed what they were made of with this grueling and tough series of falls. I give it a perfect rating.

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs The Rock at Wrestlemania X-7 4/1/01- A no DQ match that was just great in this storybook rivalry. Austin made a shocking heel turn by joining forces with his long time nemesis Vince McMahon. I give it a perfect rating.

Behind the Scenes of the Wrestlemania Commercial- The WWE Experience 4/10/05

Stone Cold is not Vince’s son at SNME 8/18/07

The only downfalls I can find were the match selection and a lack of promos. I would of left off the matches of Yokozuna, Eddie, Los Hombres, and the ECW Triple Threat for better matches. Stone Cold was gold on the mic, and his promos in the WWF were legendary. I like his ECW promos, but I wish they had more on here.

Overall this is a great pick up for any fan of Stone Cold or of wrestling. Most of the matches were good or great. Stone Cold also does a good job giving his perspective of his career. This dvd really makes me miss my childhood days. I’m glad to have this in my collection.
