WWE Smackdown 9-16-11 Results

Edge was introduced to his hometown crowd. He told the crowd about how much he missed the WWE and the fans. He said that he was there to host the Cutting Edge with Mark Henry and Randy Orton, when Cody Rhodes came out to the ring. Cody tried to run Edge down as using his appearance to just promote his appearance on Haven, when Edge told him to do something about his own misery. Cody said that Edge sounds bitter because his career is over, and Cody has, since Wrestlemania, won the intercontinental title, disposed of Ted DiBiase and pinned Randy Orton. He handed Edge a paper bag, but said he knows that Edge wouldn’t put it on, but so he can be reminded about the new face of Smackdown, Cody Rhodes. Edge handed the bag back to Cody telling him that he needs the bag more than Edge does, and is surprised that someone as charismatic as Dusty Rhodes could sire someone like Cody. Then Edge said he would leave before he fell asleep. An angry Cody lashed out at the crowd, walking around the ring telling fans they need bags on their faces. One fan, with a bag on his head nailed Cody in the face. He then pulled the bag off his head, revealing that it was Ted DiBiase. DiBiase would then chase Cody into the ring where he layed him out.

Match 1: Daniel Bryan v. Sin Cara

This action packed rematch between the two competitors got heated when Bryan assaulted Sin Cara with a series of rapid kicks in the corner. When Bryan went up to the top ropes, Sin Cara tripped him up and as Bryan fell back he would be stuck upside down in the corner. Sin Cara began kicking at him repeatedly until the ref called for the bell, disqualifying Sin Cara. As Sin Cara got agitated by the loss, he continued to kick Bryan, when the lights went blue and Sin Cara’s music played. Another Sin Cara showed up in the entrance way and made his way to the ring. The two Sin Caras, differentiated only by the shade of blue of their tights, circled each other as the crowd cheered more for one Sin Cara over the other. Eventually, the Sin Cara who competed in the match backed out and left the ring.

Winner: Daniel Bryan (by disqualification)

Teddy Long told Zakk Ryder to inform Mark Henry and Randy Orton that the no contact rule is once again in place for when the two meet in the Cutting Edge. If there is contact, the match between the two will be off. Ryder did not seem excited, but took off to do as he was told. Oksana showed up and offered Teddy Long a massage. Long agreed, as Trish Stratus walked into an awkward looking situation, as Long tried to explain it wasn’t what it looked like.

Match 2: Beth Phoenix v. AJ

AJ only lasted a couple of minutes when Beth put her away with the Glam Slam. Katlyn came in to help AJ up, and rolled her friend out of the ring when Beth approached. Natalya came out and Beth grabbed the microphone saying that on Sunday, Kelly Kelly and all the other Cinderellas are going to have a very unhappy ending.

Winner: Beth Phoenix

In the back, Edge was accosted by Christian as he was talking to Trish Stratus. Christian was friendly to Edge, and said he can’t blame him for SummerSlam, because Edge just spoke his mind. Christian gave him a hug and asked Edge to tell Teddy Long that Christian should get another World title match. Edge didn’t say much back, so Christian got angry and reminded Edge that he was at his side at Wrestlemania, making sure Edge retired as champion. Edge told Christian to not act like a little bitch, which made Christian storm off fuming. Zakk Ryder jumped in and asked Edge to tell Orton adn Henry about the no contact rule, then ran off.

Match 3: Wade Barrett & Christian v. Sheamus & Justin Gabriel

Before the match, Sheamus launched some insults at Christian and Barrett. As the match to a close, Sheamus disposed of Christian, and after escaping a Wasteland attempt, hit Barrett with the Brough Kick, tagging in Gabriel who would hit the 450 splash and score the winning pin. Christian tried to sneak in to attack Sheamus, but Sheamus turned around in time, and Christian backed away.

Winners: Sheamus & Justin Gabriel

Match 4: Heath Slater v. The Great Khali

Not long after the match started, Ginder Mahal made his way to the ring and attacked Khali, getting Slater disqualified. Mahal and Slater beat on Khali in a corner, but Khali fought them off, throwing Mahal to the outside and lifting Slater high overhead, and slamming him to the mat.

Winner: The Great Khali (by disqualification)

Match 5: Evan Bourne v. R-Truth

Only a couple of minutes into the match, Bourne went for the Air Bourne, but R-Truth moved, and even though Bourne landed on his feet, R-Truth hit him with a face breaker, scoring the winning pin.

Winner: R-Truth

Edge was in the ring to host the Cutting Edge. He talked about how important Toronto has been to him. Its where he was in attendance to see Wrestlemania 6, and won his first title, the Intercontinental Championship, in his home town. He then introduced Mark Henry and Randy Orton as his guests. Orton talked about how Mark Henry has been in the company for so long and had not held the “big one” because his best isn’t good enough. Edge then questioned if there was any truth to that since when Edge started in the company, Henry was already a veteran. Henry admitted that he was right, and its because he was told to go out and smile. He was told to have a good personality, but he is done with that now and is now aiming to take what Orton has. Orton said that their match will be symbolic of Henry’s career, as him coming close but never getting the job done. Orton called Henry a 15 year old world’s strongest failure. The two squared off as Edge reminded them of the no contact rule during the Cutting Edge. Edge then stepped out of the ring and announced that the Cutting Edge is over. Orton and Henry went at each other as Teddy Long directed a bunch of wrestlers from the Smackdown locker room to the ring to stop the two men. As the wrestlers attempted to separate Orton and Henry, the two men fought their way to each other, as Henry nailed Orton with the World’s Strongest Slam. He then disposed of all the wrestlers, throwing them to the outside, and body splashed on Orton. The wrestlers tried again to stop Henry, as Orton lay on the mat, but Henry tossed them to the outside, then hit Orton with another World’s Strongest Slam. Henry then grabbed the World Championship belt and raised it over his head, while standing over Orton.
