Will John Cena or the Rock Be Victorious at WrestleMania XXVIII?

WrestleMania is a wrestling Pay-Per-View (PPV) presented by the WWE. This years PPV will take place April 1. The PPV will feature a Singles Match between “The Most Electrifying Man In Sports Entertainment” The Rock and John Cena.

At WrestleMania XXVII, The Rock was Special Guest Host. The Match between The Miz and John Cena ended in a double count out. The Rock would not allow the Match to end like that, which is why he restarted the Match. To ensure a winner, The Rock restarted the Match as a no count out, no disqualification Match. Moments after making the announcement, The Rock nailed Cena with a “Rock Bottom.” This allowed The Miz to pick up the victory and remain WWE Champion.

This did not sit well with Cena who had some things to say about The Rock the following night on Raw. The Rock knew Cena was talking about him and made his way to the ring. The Rock asked Cena “what did you think was going to happen?” The Rock told Cena that he knew payback was coming. The Rock admitted to talking trash about Cena and told him he was wrong about not being respected. The Rock told Cena he respects him but he just does not like him. The Rock told Cena they were complete opposites. They talk different, dress different, and wrestle different. Despite their differences they are also very similar because they both want to do things better than everyone else.

After being insulted by The Rock, Cena said the time for talking was over. Stating that the WWE Universe does not want to see them talk, they want to see a match. The Rock agreed that the time for talking was over and told Cena he was going to bring it on the grandest stage in the world, Wrestle Mania XXVIII. The Rock extended his hand to Cena letting the WWE Universe know that the main event for Wrestle Mania XXVIII will be John Cena vs. The Rock.

The Rock and Cena would not cross paths until Survivor Series when Cena hand picked The Rock as his Tag Team Partner. Cena and The Rock successfully defeated The Awesome Truth (The Miz and R-Truth) at Survivor Series. After the Match The Rock invited Cena to the ring to have a pose down. The Rock clearly won the pose down as the WWE Universe booed Cena. After the pose down The Rock and Cena stood face to face. The face to face did not last long as The Rock nailed Cena with a ‘Rock Bottom’.

Up to this point The Rock has gotten the upper hand on Cena. In Cena’s case that means nothing. Cena has been man handled before but when the PPV rolls around he turns into Super Cena withstanding everything thrown at him. Super Cena will be no match for The Rock. The Rock will be in his hometown of Miami. Although being in your home town does not guarantee a victory, it does put the odds in your favor.

The most recent example would be CM Punk. Punk faced Cena in his hometown of Chicago at SummerSlam 2011 for the WWE Championship. At the end of the night it, Punk became the new WWE Champion by defeating Cena. Another example is Trish Stratus. Stratus defeated Lita for the Women’s Championship at Unforgiven 2006 in her hometown of Toronto. After the Match Stratus retired as Champion.

Unlike Stratus The Rock will probably not retire after the Match because he already announced that he would electrify WrestleMania XXIX. Before he can do that he will have to defeat Cena at WrestleMania XXVIII. At the end of the day this Match will probably come down to who benefits more. In this case the WWE would probably benefit more with The Rock picking up the victory. The Rock is now a world wide star thanks to his acting career. Since his acting career has taken off The Rock no longer needs to wrestle. There has to be some benefit for him to return to the ring. That benefit is most likely a victory. For those reasons I’m giving the victory to The Rock.
