Whitney Houston’s Death Sparks Much Controversy

Late singer Whitney Houston’s life was not without controversy due to her battle with substance abuse and her tumultuous relationship with ex-husband Bobby Brown. Houston died on Saturday, February 11, 2012 in her hotel room, underwater and unconscious, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Now it seems as if controversy has followed her, even in death.

The Governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie, wished to have flags flown at half staff on the day of Whitney’s funeral. Many people feel this is an inappropriate move, as most of the time when flags are flown at half staff, it is due to a national disaster or done in honor of a fallen military hero. Many people are outraged, feeling that Houston’s death does not warrant such an honor. Whitney Houston was a native of New Jersey.

Another controversy is swirling resulting from a statement from the mouth of always outspoken former prosecutor and television anchor Nancy Grace. Grace apparently insinuated that someone placed Whitney under the water or somehow in some way played a part in her death. Many were upset by Grace’s accusations that as of yet have no backing, claiming she was saying it to help her ratings for her television program. ( Grace was the woman responsible for coining the term “Tot Mom” in reference to Casey Anthony.)

Prescription drugs were found in Whitney’s hotel room, along with alcohol, but it will be another 6-8 weeks before the toxicology results are in. Hopefully the results will provide some answers and these controversies will eventually die down so that Whitney Houston can finally rest in peace.
