Running out of an essential beauty product just when you need it can be extremely irritating. Nail polish remover is one of those beauty products that is needed to remove old nail polish before you can apply new polish. If you have run out of nail polish, don’t run to the store just yet. There are many other products in your home that can be used to remove nail polish safely. Try the following methods of removing nail polish without nail polish remover.
Wet Nail Polish
Commercial nail polish can be used to remove old nail polish. Begin by soaking your nails in warm water for approximately ten minutes. Apply a coat of nail polish, preferably clear, over your old nail polish. Use a cotton ball or wet wipe to quickly wipe off both layers of polish quickly, while the top layer is still wet. Repeat as needed.
Hairspray
Hairspray contains properties that will gradually remove polish from the nails. Body spray and perfume can be used as alternatives. Spray the cotton end of a q-tip with hairspray. Rub the q-tip back and forth over your nail to remove the old nail polish. This process may need to be repeated several times to remove all the polish.
Citrus Fruits
Squeeze the juice from various citrus fruits, such as oranges, lemons, and limes, into a bowl. Add some vinegar and mix. Dip a cotton ball into the mixture and swipe the old polish from your nails. This may have to be done several times to fully remove all of the polish. Gently scrape off any excess polish with a nail file.
Hand Sanitizer
Hand sanitizer can be used to efficiently take off old nail polish in a matter of minutes. Put a couple of drops of hand sanitizer onto a clean, dry cloth. Wipe the nails down with the hand sanitizer until all of the polish is removed. More than one application may be required to remove all of the polish.
Toothpaste
Toothpaste will also remove nail polish but the process is slow-going. It may take many applications of toothpaste to fully remove all of the nail polish from the nails. Not all types of toothpaste will work to remove old polish. Try this process as a last resort or in combination with a different way to remove nail polish.
Spray Deodorant
Spray deodorant is a powerful remover of many products, from nail polish to markers. Spray the deodorant as close to your nails as possible. Try not to get the spray on the skin, as this can be irritating to those with sensitive skin. Rub your nails with a dry cloth or napkin. Continue to rub, especially around the borders, until all the polish is gone.
