Wall Love Letters

It doesn’t have to be Valentine’s Day to show someone you love them. Anytime of the year works for that. So, with your next trip to the local craft store, pick up a few inexpensive craft supplies and have fun with a project where you make love letters to give to someone, or to keep for yourself. Love letters, hanging on the wall, is an adorable home accent group that you can make with your choice of supplies, and your choice of theme.

At a craft store you’ll find lots of different sizes of wooden letters. When you buy an “L”, an “O”, a “V”, and an “E”, you can make a substantial wall hanging that’s quite impressive. Or, just buy cheap craft foam and make a lightweight version that’s cute and appropriate for many different rooms in the house.

If you’re using wooden letters you have zillions of choices of fabrics, scrapbook paper, foils, and other materials. With scrapbook paper it’s easy to give the letters a nautical theme, an outdoorsy look, or even a silly design. Decoupage the chosen material onto the letters so that each letter looks different, but so that they all coordinate. If you want, paint the sides of the letters before covering the fronts with cloth or paper. Or, do something even more unusual and print photos to make collages on the letters.

When using wooden letters you’ll need a couple of small hardware pieces. Along the bottom of the “L”, screw in a “C” hook, right in the middle. This will be used to hang the “V”. Screw an eye hook into the top of the “V” and hang it on the “L”. Screw a “C” hook into the “O”, and hang the “E” on it. You end up with a wall hanging that spells “LOVE”, with the “L” and the “O” on top, and the “V” and “E” on the bottom.

If you prefer the less expensive version of the “LOVE” wall hanging, use craft foam. Cut three or more of each letter, and glue them together, so that you create thick letters. The craft foam can be painted on, fabric can be glued to it, or you can glue on any number of other embellishments. When you’re finished decorating the letters, glue the “L” and the “O” together, side-by-side. Glue the “V” and the “E” together, side-by-side, then glue the top two letters to the bottom two.

The “LOVE” wall hanging is really adorable but there many others you could make. Spell out “peace”, “us”, “forever”, or even a holiday word. Use papers or fabric to create some of the wall hangings but photos of family, vacation spots, or even famous places, to decorate other sets. It’s a fun project that you can do for yourself or for someone else, with or without kids – well, you get it.
