Volunteer Opportunities in Kitsap County

Kitsap County in Washington offers many opportunities for those who want to volunteer. Whether your interests lie with helping animals, helping the homeless or simply using your talents to benefit an organization, volunteer opportunities exist for you.

Kitsap County’s Volunteer Program has volunteer opportunities for individuals over the age of 14. Youth and college students volunteer with county departments to build workplace experience and help out the county. Opportunities are available for groups to help with local community service and building projects and the volunteer program will also help groups find service projects in the Kitsap County community.

United Way of Kitsap County hosts an annual day of caring held in June, where individuals and community members participate to help with local service projects. Throughout the year, groups and individuals may also conduct fundraising efforts to help benefit the programs supported by the Kitsap County United Way.

Habitat for Humanity, a national organization that builds houses for low-income families, works in Kitsap County. Individuals may volunteer for construction projects, office administration needs or help in the local Habitat for Humanity store.

For animal lovers, the Kitsap Humane Society regularly seeks volunteers to help in a variety of capacities. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and attend a special training sessions. While dog walkers and animal cleaners or socializers are needed, office positions and customer service opportunities are available. For those looking to volunteer from their own homes, foster care positions allow individuals to take care of dogs or cats in their homes while they await adoption.

If you enjoy working with children, the school districts in Kitsap County, including Bremeron, South Kitsap, Central Kitsap and North Kitsap, invite volunteers to apply to work directly with students. Positions include tutoring students, reading with elementary school children, serving as a mentor to a disadvantaged student and helping with special events. Most school volunteers must undergo a background check.
