UFC 137 Results: BJ Penn Retires After Loss to Nick Diaz

There was a ton of bad news from UFC 137. Georges St-Pierre was unable to defend his title against Carlos Condit because of a knee injury, so the main event was canceled. B.J. Penn announced his retirement from mixed martial arts after a loss to Nick Diaz at UFC 137. This was terrible news for MMA fans because B.J. Penn was a fan favorite, but not unbelievable because Penn has lost 3 out of 4 fights including one draw. He also lost his UFC Lightweight Championship to Frankie Edgar. St-Pierre’s injury really hurt the fight card for UFC 137. More bad news: “Mirko Cro Cop was defeated by Roy Nelson at UFC 137 by TKO in round 3. After the loss, Mirko said farewell to the sport of MMA, stating “I was treated like a king from the beginning. It’s in my best interest that this is my farewell fight, thanks everybody.” Saying farewell and leaving the cage for the final time.” (Wiki) The fights were okay, but really weren’t worth the pay per view price. The results are below.

Undercard:

Clifford Starks defeats Dustin Jacoby by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

UFC 137 was okay. The shocking news involved the knee injury to Georges St-Pierre and the retirement announcement of B.J. Penn. Nick Diaz gains the unanimous decision against B.J. Penn, puts the fighter into retirement and stands behind Carlos Condit for a chance to fight the champion Georges St-Pierre. St-Pierre should be back in another month or so and the fight with Carlos Condit is still on. The shame is MMA fight fans lost out on a good fight and had to settle for a sub-par UFC 137, too many decisions and not enough fireworks. A promising event dwindles into an okay event that should have been aired in its entirety on free television. Better luck next time Dana, I believe you failed at UFC 137.
