Tips to Make Your Holiday Travel Smoother

December holidays are creeping up on us. With the holidays looming many people are planning to travel back home or visit friends and family. Although many have already booked their trips or made their plans, for some, the planning is far from over, especially when the roads are closed or there are flight delays.

How can people stay ahead of the game and arrive to their destination on time? Holiday travel is supposed to be an exciting, fun time for the entire family. With some pre planning your family will have a wonderful holiday trip and an enjoyable time.

Tickets and ID

Make sure everyone’s ticket is with you when you leave the house. Don’t forget everyone’s ID. Airlines require that each person flying has an ID card.

Luggage

Find out ahead of time what sort of luggage is acceptable on your flight. Since the events of 9/11 luggage is screened much more closely. Many items that were previously allowed on flights are now banned. These requirements can change frequently especially around peak holiday travel times so be aware of them before you pack.

Pack Light

Pack only what you need. If you’re staying with family that has a laundry facility consider only taking a few changes of clothing. Remember that part of the trip you’ll be packing that luggage around an airport so you want to have as little to drag around with you as possible.

TSA Regulations

Regulations change frequently. Before you pack that bottle of shampoo or that razor see what the requirements are otherwise you risk having it confiscated during the security screening.

Plan Ahead

The earlier you book your flight the cheaper it’s going to be. I once took a flight that should have been well over $600 and it was only $250 because I booked it 3 months in advance.

Stay Positive

Stay positive if something goes awry and keep a good sense of humor and remember that one day you’re going to look back on this and laugh. Remember: The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry. Be prepared for the worst case scenario and then no matter what happens you’ll be able to deal with it.

Traveling With Children

Traveling with children can be a challenge so make sure to bring plenty of easy lightweight activities for them to do. Books, puzzle books, electronic games or even a portable DVD player are all great activities to keep children occupied when traveling.

Following these tips should help your flight to be an enjoyable part of your trip. Enjoy your visit.
