Three Great Handmade Owl Costumes that You Can Make Yourself

Halloween is a little over twenty days away, and there is still plenty of time to make your child a cute handmade costume. Owls seem to be a big hit this year, and there are plenty of tutorials for how to make an owl costume that can be found online. Here are three of my favorite tutorials for making an owl costume.

Alphamom: Last-Minute Kids’ Owl Costume

Ellen Baker shares an easy tutorial for making a cute kids’ owl costume at Alphamom. The best part of Ellen’s tutorial is that her owl costume can either be sewn, or you can use fabric glue to construct it, so if you don’t know how to sew you aren’t completely out of luck.

Ellen uses a tee shirt for the base of this costume, and the feathers can be made from fabric scraps or old tee shirts. For the eyes you will need a pair of kid’s sunglasses and some cardstock.

Pure Joy Events: Pink Owl Costume

Christine at Pure Joy Events has created a great tutorial for making a pink owl costume that can easily be converted to a boy’s owl costume or an owl costume in the color of your choice.

Christine uses a hooded sweatshirt as the basis for her owl costume, and fleece for the feathers. Like Ellen’s owl costume Christine’s owl costume can be made either by sewing the feathers on or gluing them on. So again, you really don’t need to have any sewing skills to make this costume.

Early Bird Special: Handmade Owl Costume

Amy Bindel, who blogs at Early Bird Special, shares how she made her Handmade Owl Costume for her daughter on her blog. The costume is a made using elements from three different owl costume tutorials. So while Amy’s tutorial is not exactly a tutorial she shares how she made a super cute Handmade Owl Costume for her little girl using all three of the patterns.

Amy’s description of her construction and sewing process is very well written, and with the patterns that she links to you will have no problem recreating her owl costume. I really like Amy’s finished costume, as it really does combine the best parts of some of the best owl costumes out there.
