The Magical Avocado

Avocados are an amazing food that complement so many dishes. Not only are avocados good for eating, they are used in many beauty products. Let’s learn more about the amazing and magical avocado.

Avocados Are a Fruit

Avocados are a nutritious fruit with many health benefits. Many people mistake this delightful green fruit for a vegetable.

Avocados Are Magical

It is told that a Mayan Princess ate the very first avocado. Further, it was said that the avocado held mystical and magical powers. We know that the avocado does not hold magical powers, yet I will venture to say the avocado is magical. I believe the avocado to be magical because it has numerous uses and many health benefits. In addition, the avocado goes into many recipes, creating delicious dishes as if by magic. I grew up in Southern California, where I regularly ate taquitos (rolled tacos) with guacamole, so the avocado has long been magical by my standards.

It’s What’s Inside That Counts

Not only do avocados taste delicious, they are loaded with nutrients beneath their skin. One cup of cubed avocado contains:
10 grams of fiber 3 grams of protein 25 percent vitamin C 39 percent vitamin K 21 percent potassium 19 percent B6 11 percent magnesium

Additionally, avocados provide a source of good fats.

Avocado in Beauty Products

I have beauty products that contain avocado oil. One such beauty product is Gillete Satin Care Shave Gel in Alluring Avocado. The scent of this shave gel is amazing, which explains why they named it Alluring Avocado. Another great beauty product I have used, is Tressemme Naturals Moisture. Tressemme Naturals Moisture comes in a shampoo and conditioner, which both contain aloe vera and avocado.

Avocado oil is good for the skin because it contains a high amount of sterolins, better known as plant steroids. Sterolins are known to reduce age spots. Sterolins also soften and moisten the skin. In addition to plant steroids, avocado oil contains vitamins A, D and E. It also contains lecithin, potassium, beta-carotene and fatty acids.

The Many Recipes of the Avocado

There are more than 80 varieties of avocados, as well as numerous recipes that can be made from avocados.

Here is a list of some of the many avocado recipes:

Guacamole Avocado Milkshake Beer-Battered Fried Avocado Wedges Grecian Avocado Pizza Avocado Tacos (substitute Avocados for ground beef) Salads Avocanana Bread Egg Salad and Avocado Wrap BSTA Salad (Bacon, Spinach, Tomato and Avocado) Deviled Eggs With California Avocado

Recipe: Egg Wraps With Salsa and Avocado

I love making egg wraps because they are quick and easy. I enjoy them with salsa and avocados, while my husband and kids enjoy them with cheese. Avocados brilliantly complement this dish.

Ingredients:

Flour Tortillas (Large) Eggs (2 eggs per wrap) Cheddar Cheese (Shredded) Non-Stick Cooking Spray Chunky Salsa Avocado (cut into slices)

Directions for one wrap:

Beat 2 eggs. Heat a small frying pan over medium heat. Apply non-stick spray to the pan. Pour eggs into the pan, allowing them to cook on one side. Flip eggs with a spatula when cooked on first side. While still in the pan, top with shredded cheddar cheese. Take a large flour tortilla and place the eggs in the center. Top eggs with salsa and avocado slices. Fold the top and bottom of the tortilla, just enough to hold eggs in place. Wrap tortilla while keeping the top and bottom folded.

Enjoy the magical avocado!
