The Life Coach: How Journaling Can Help Better Your Life

Think it’s expensive to utilize the knowledge of a life coach? No longer. You now have a life coach right here on Associated Content. I have a Ph.D. and I hold my degree as a Holistic Life Coach. Through a series of articles, I know not how many yet, I will share with you many ways that you can better your life. One of the first things that I talk to people about when it comes to bettering their lives is that they can benefit from journaling. Most people think of the diary they wrote in as a child when they think of journaling, but there is so much more to it. And there are many types of journals that you can write too, depending on what you are trying to fix about your life. I, myself, do a blend of journals all in one, because I think that creating what works best for you in any situation is the key to enlightenment.

As I have mentioned, there are many types of journals. There are diet journals, dream journals, fitness journals, goal journals and more. Journals can be filled with hopes, wishes and dreams. They can be filled with day to day activities. They can have only one specific goal, or they can have many. Someone who is trying to lose weight to better their health and their life will benefit most from a fitness and/or diet journal. In this journal you track your fitness routines and calories burned, as well as what you have eaten and your calorie intake. Someone who is trying hard to reach a specific goal can benefit from a goal journal. In this journal you will write out your exact goal and then each day you will fill in what you have done towards reaching that goal. This journal, as most, helps hold you accountable for the things you do. Holding yourself accountable for the events and actions in your own life is important. Only you can change who you are. Only you are in control of your life.

The best way to start a journal is to get a notebook and a comfortable pen, and start writing. If you are unsure of what you want your journal to focus on you will figure it out as you write. My own journal is a mixture of hopes and dreams, goals and lists and what is happening or what I want to happen. Most of my journal is inspired by the book “The Secret,” by Rhonda Byrne. You will notice as this series of life coaching articles come out that I will reference this book often. I highly recommend that anyone trying to better their life read this book, and/or watch it’s documentary video, and take it’s advice. In basics, “The Secret” teaches us that like begets like and that our lives are what we make them. If you wallow in misery and only see your life in a negative light, then all you will ever have is negativity. Instead, only see the positive and you will attract positivity. Integrating this into your journaling experience means journaling about what you want to happen, as if it has already happened. For example: Someone who is going to school to be a preschool teacher, but has yet to finish their degree and begin working, may have an entry such as this-

“When I enter my classroom the children are all smiling, and this makes me smile too. The natural light allows for a relaxed environment. Each corner of the room is like a different world. One corner is filled with musical instruments and a karaoke machine, to inspire the children who love to make music. Another corner has comfy, child-size chairs, and shelves full of books. This is the library area. Here there are also blank notebooks where inspired children can write their own stories. Another corner is set up like a home, with a kitchen and a laundry room. Here children pretend to bake and do dishes and be domestic kings and queens. In the final corner there are crafting items galore, all organized and labeled. Here children create, laugh and imagine.”

This is the author’s dream classroom, where she sees herself when her degree is finished. But she doesn’t say “this is what I want.” Instead it is written as if it is what is already in existence, as this is how we attract the things we want. You can use positive attraction in your career, love life, schooling and to earn money. But I’ll save that for another article. For now, get yourself that pad of paper and a comfortable pen and start writing!
