The Five Best Young Indianapolis Colts Players: Fan’s Take

The Indianapolis Colts are entering a new era. They have had difficulty drafting recently and have very few talented young players on the roster. The recent hire of general manager Ryan Grigson signals that the team is looking for someone to identify young talent and help the team get back to being one of the premier franchises in the NFL. The following five players are Indianapolis’ best players under 25 years old or younger.

Donald Brown
Brown is still just 24 years old and is coming off his best season in his third year with the Indianapolis Colts. He ran for 645 yards on 134 carries and had five touchdowns on the season. For whatever reason, the coaching staff did not give Brown many carries over Joseph Addai and Delone Carter even after having breakout games late in the season. I think Brown did enough this year to earn the starting job going into next season.

Pierre Garcon
Garcon is still 25 years old and just concluded his third NFL season. He’s a free agent this offseason and will be important for the team to retain. Garcon improved his statistics in 2011 despite playing without Peyton Manning throwing the ball to him. He ended the year with 70 catches for 947 yards and six touchdowns.

Pat Angerer
Angerer turns 25 on January 31 and just concluded a stellar second season in Indianapolis. Angerer was amongst NFL leaders with 148 tackles on season. He also had one sack, one interception, two forced fumbles and three passes defensed. Pat Angerer is the future at middle linebacker and looks like a future Pro Bowler for Indianapolis at linebacker.

Kavell Conner
Kavell Conner is just 24 years old and concluded his second NFL season. This was his first year as a full-time starter and Conner responded with great play at the linebacker position. Conner finished the year with 104 tackles and one forced fumble on season. He’s already great defending the run and if he can improve his pass protection, Indianapolis may have a great player in Conner.

Jerraud Powers
Powers had his season end early due to injury for the third time in three NFL seasons. He finished 12 games with 51 tackles and had two interceptions, six passes defensed and one defensive touchdown on the season. Powers is undoubtedly the best coverage corner on the roster in Indianapolis.
