The Best Voice to Front Queen – is Adam Lambert It

Since the late Freddie Mercury is “American Idol” runner-up Adam Lambert’s idol, it is fitting he should be the new front man for Queen. Lambert’s dream came partially true when he performed with Brian May and Roger Taylor in the 2009 “American Idol” season finale. They even performed together in 2011 in Belfast for the MTV EMAs. Idol or not, is Lambert the right voice for the iconic rock group Queen?

What Freddie Represents

Queen is well known for their catchy, hard rock anthems which any classic rock fan knows and loves. They are often best known for their front man, the flamboyant Freddie Mercury. Yes, it is true that no one can replace him. That doesn’t mean someone else can’t sing the songs. During the 70s and 80s, Mercury had the charisma it took to bring entire stadiums to their feet. He represented the true heart of a performer and not just another pretty vocalist.

The Rebirth – Round 1

After dying of bronchopneumonia in 1991, Queen essentially fell off the map. The band didn’t tour under the name Queen again until 2004. Paul Rodgers became the front man until May 2009 when the band once again disbanded. Rodgers was already well known for his time with Bad Company. As a classic rock veteran, few questioned his ability to live up to the standards set forth by Mercury. During this time, the only original members included guitarist, Brian May, and drummer, Roger Taylor.

The Saga Continues

Rumors are now circulating Adam Lambert may be the next to front Queen. According to MTV News , Lambert will indeed be heading out this summer as Queen’s new front man, at least temporarily. Lambert stated he wasn’t out to replace Mercury, only honor his idol. With one tour date set for Knebworth, Freddie Mercury’s last performance with Queen, many feel someone so young and controversial isn’t the right fit for the role.

Is Adam Lambert Right

Freddie Mercury was well known for his incredible vocals and theatrical style. During his time on “American Idol,” Adam Lambert proved he can easily handle Queen’s vocal style. Whether you like him or not, he fits the theatrical style perfectly. While he isn’t from the same time period, Queen has the right to perform once again. Having a much younger front man isn’t unheard of and even worked well for Journey who found their new lead singer from YouTube.

Lambert won’t replace Mercury. However, he is the right fit for introducing a younger generation to the rock many of their favorite bands were inspired by.
