The Best of Houston, Texas: St. Patrick’s Day Parades and Events

Rain or shine the 53rd Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Houston is fine! It’s not only fine, but it is one of the biggest, best and oldest St. Patrick’s Day traditions in Houston. This free event will be held on Sat. March 17th at noon on Texas Street. A map of the parade route is available online so you can know exactly where to set up your seat .

The 34th Annual 1960 Saint Patrick’s Day Parade is a program that not only provides St. Patrick’s Day fun and entertainment for the whole family but supports the very valuable Cypress Creek EMS Education Scholarship programs. The parade raised over $100,000 towards this important community services.

It’s not all just fun and games as you and your float can compete in the following categories:

1. Youth – 3 places

2. Adult – 3 places

3. Spirit of St. Patrick’s Day – Corporate

4. Spirit of St. Patrick’s Day – Individual

5. Longevity Award

Float judging will be based on originality, creativity, appearance, craftsmanship, spirit and crowd appeal.

The parade begins at approximately 12:00 p.m. on Sunday March 11, 2012 at the Wells Fargo parking lot at Champions Forest Drive and FM 1960, and ends at The Texas Rock Tavern at the corner of FM 1960 and Kuykendahl. Take your places along the parade route early as over 60,000 people are expected.

There is more than one type of green grain to celebrate this St. Patrick’s Day. The Bayou City Outdoors & REI Present: Green Scene 101 & Foodie Extravaganza celebrating the organic and locally grown “green scene” in Houston with “tours” and tasting of much of what is green about Houston is offered on Tuesday, March 13. There are a number of pubs in the area going green with their beer and their St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations including:

McGonigel’s Mucky Duck 2425 Norfolk St.

McGonigel’s is offering a fun and music filled St. Patrick’s Day celebration that is general admission under the “Big Top Tent” outside. Seating is limited and available on a first come first served basis.

Brian O’Neill’s 5555 Morningside Dr.

Brian O’Neills was voted in the Top Ten Best Places To Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Houston.

Lucky’s Pub is opening its doors early as it hosts the St. Patrick’s Day Festival 2012. Tickets are $10.00 or $50.00 for VIP seating.
