Thanksgiving Turkey Soup Surprise

Trimming the meat off the turkey was an easy task and once done, the bones went into the stewpot with water brought to a boil. Reducing the heat to simmer and adding a lid to keep the moisture in, the aroma of turkey brought the thought of turkey soup to everyone’s mind. The next day Bob decided he would take a turn at making Thanksgiving Turkey Soup, a recipe everyone would remember.

Carrots, onions and celery were briskly peeled, chopped and put in the broth. While the liquid bubbled merrily, Bob put in some salt, pepper, garlic and chunks or turkey. Rather than peeling and cubing potatoes, he opted for flat, wide noodles. The fragrance was tempting, so he used the cook’s prerogative of sampling his creation. Something was missing, but he was unsure of what else to add to the mixture. Looking through the refrigerator, Bob found a few other things to add, put the lid back on the stewpot when he was done and sat down to watch one of the college football games.

When dinnertime arrived, Bob used a spoon for a taste of the liquid to see if he needed to add seasoning. The look on his face was one of amazement and surprise, just before he headed to the sink for a glass of water. With an apologetic look, he explained the jalapeno pepper he put in had turned the taste to liquid fire, although the flavor was good. Adding another cup of water did not eliminate the problem. “I will take care of this.” Bob’s declaration gained quite a bit of interest in what he planned, but he banned everyone from the kitchen as he worked magic.

An hour later, Bob pulled a pasta, turkey and cheese casserole from the oven. The consistency was great, the cheddar cheese melted across the top perfectly and the generous portions served to each person made a delicious meal. Everyone was curious about the disposition of the turkey soup, but no one was willing to bring it up.

Gathering the dishes from the table, he commented about how well the extra pasta and cheese eliminated the jalapeno taste from the turkey soup, converted into the casserole served for dinner. Bob was certainly right about it being a Thanksgiving Turkey Soup recipe all would remember and some of the family is looking forward to his casserole version next year.
