SyFy’s Jabberwock is Jibberwack

SyFy has done it again with the new made-for-TV movie, “Jabberwocky”. Far from being as classy as a Monty Python skit, this flick is hardly worth the price of a packet of microwave popcorn.

While I hate to be harsh toward the hard-working actors and actresses that make B-grade science fiction/fantasy movies, this ensemble has produced the typical SyFy drek that we all know and sometimes love. The effects are wonderful, if only we got them in the same frame as the actors for once instead of watching endless cutaways of the actors swiffing the air with their swords!

I hesitate to even mention the actors’ names for fear of ruining their chances at making another blue-cheese-rated SyFy movie. Well, all right, I’ll mention two: Michael Worth as Alec, and Hugh Ross. They get honorable mention because of their brave acting in the face of a miserable movie. While Worth is just now making his name known as a character actor, Hugh Ross is a veteran. Ross has been in many wonderful series such as “Lovejoy” and “Agatha Christie’s Poirot”. It’s hard to overlook such a natural actor. He’s truly gifted, and brought meaning to even the most boring scenes.

I will not taint the lead actor’s name by mentioning him in this article, but I can give you a clue: He’s best known for playing “Helo” in the “Battlestar Galactica” remake. It is possible that if he were a better, more seasoned actor, that it might have made a significant difference to this film. Oh, well.

Take my advice, unless you really, really love dragons and dragon hunting, skip this one.
