Star Wars: The Old Republic PC Game Review

For fans of the Star Wars PC games up to this point, the new Star Wars: The Old Republic game is a welcome addition to the franchise. Though this game does not have all of the sensational characters that much of mainstream America is used to like Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, it does offer some incredibly interesting characters for play. Because this is an online game it is important that it is story driven and that each character has their own adventure that does not wholly depend on a preset story line.

Set in a time when the epic war between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire tore the galaxy in two, the game allows you to return to a time before Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader’s epic confrontation. This game offers plenty of opportunities to set your character apart from others through character personalization, actions, and decision making. For example, you can choose any variety of classic Star Wars roles but each individual character has their own adventure completely independent of the other Jedi or Sith. This is one point in the game that I truly want to praise, the creators did an exemplary job creating plausible individual paths for characters to pursue without sticking them in any pigeonholed category. Just because you choose to be a Jedi, does not mean that you have to do things that are upstanding every time and just because you choose to be a Sith does not mean that you have to do any atypical things.

The multiplayer aspect of the game is another thing that sets it apart from other online games. Though it does employ the same basic concept of befriending other players, the interactions and relationships are far more advanced and in depth than many other online games offer. There are challenges that you can partake with other players and relationships that you can either nourish or ruin depending on your actions. Other online players have the ability to see the actions that you have taken and decide if they wish to continue the relationship, elevate it, or completely destroy it. Rather than simply offering the chance for players to chat with one another, the creators have made it possible for characters to travel together and complete objectives together. Still another point of praise is the graphics and settings that the makers chose to highlight.

There are typical settings that you would expect from a Star Wars games and so much more. You can visit and patrol the Sith homeland of Korriban and the planet’s ancient tombs, the Core Worlds, the noble world of Alderaan, and the Jedi Temple. The fact that the terrains and locations are so varied and elaborate makes the game seem far more realistic than past Star Wars games. Though there are plenty of things to commend game makers on with this game, the fact that it is so elaborate and advanced makes it difficult to play unless you have high speed internet and a computer with great graphics.
