Quick, Easy and Delicious! A Review of Betty Crocker Cream Cheese Frosting

Betty Crocker has long been my helper in the kitchen, and so it was once again when I needed cream cheese for a birthday cake. My granddaughter turned one and I decided to make her a carrot cake for her birthday, since I feel carrot cakes are a healthier choice. Of course many people serve carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, but I was in a huge time crunch and decided to trust Betty once again.

I purchased one can of Betty Crocker Rich & Creamy Cream Cheese Frosting on sale for only $1.29, and I knew I couldn’t make the homemade version for that price. This is not to be confused with the whipped version of Betty Crocker Cream Cheese Frosting. It comes in a light colored can, and the word whipped is not on the label.

The product comes in a 16 ounce plastic container that resembles a can, and this one container was plenty to frost a large cake in the shape of a butterfly. In fact, we had some frosting left over! I had half a container of real cream cheese in my refrigerator, and I had planned on beating the two together to get a real cream cheese flavor, but after tasting Betty Crocker Rich & Creamy Cream Cheese Frosting I felt this was not necessary. Although it is artificial flavored, it tasted like the real thing to me.

Betty Crocker Rich & Creamy Cream Cheese Frosting is nice and thick and very easy to spread. I didn’t feel the need to beat it first to make it creamy, but I did stir the contents with a spoon. Taking a peek at the ingredients on the label, I don’t actually see cream cheese listed, but rather sugars and partially hydrogenated soybean and cottonseed oil. I’m sure real cream cheese would have been much healthier, but this worked great in a pinch and it saved me time and money.

Do I prefer the taste of real cream cheese frosting made from scratch? Of course! If I were to buy this again I would blend in some real cream cheese and maybe a small amount of sour cream, but it was actually pretty tasty just the way it was.
