Product Review: VO5 VO5 Moisture Milks Moisturizing Conditioner Strawberries & Cream

Naturals who conditioner wash (co-wash) their hair and detangle frequently understand the importance of a cheap yet effective conditioner. I will admit I was guilty of using my pricier conditioners to detangle in the past. Because of the large amounts I would use I wound up spending entirely too much money replacing the product. Many had raved about the Alberto VO5 moisture milks conditioners for co washing and detangling purposes, so, desperate to save some money, I picked myself up a bottle. I was very skeptical at first about how a drug store product that seemed to be targeted to those with straighter hair could work on my kinky hair textured. I’m glad I got over my suspicions. This product has definitely made itself a staple hair product for me.

I purchased the 15 fluid ounce VO5 Moisture Milks conditioner from my local grocery store. Let me tell you, this product was cheap! I only paid $.89 for a bottle and from what I have heard; it is possible to get it for even cheaper than that. The VO5 line has a variety of shampoos and conditioners in various scents. For myself, I chose the strawberries and cream version to try first.

Because I am in to more natural products to care for my hair, I was not crazy about the ingredients in this conditioner. None of the ingredients are natural but there is not mineral oil or sulfates in the conditioner so I felt ok about using it. What I did like about the products ingredients was the fact that water is listed as the first ingredient and biotin is also listed on the bottle.

The directions say to apply to wet hair after shampooing, leave on as desired and rinse thoroughly. I did not use the VO5 shampoo before using this product. Instead, I sectioned my wet hair in the shower and applied a generous amount of conditioner to each section and detangled using my fingers. I was extremely pleased with the ease in which I was able to detangle my hair. This product provided me with the slip that I needed to detangle quickly and efficiently without the heavy silicones that are found in other drug store conditioners. After rinsing out my hair felt very smooth, hydrated and most importantly tangle free!

Though the results of the product were great, for me the smell of the strawberries and cream was not. The scent was extremely over powering in the shower but luckily it did not linger too long after rinsing out. I am glad that VO5 offers other scents in this line and will try another smell the next time around.

The bottle advertises that it contains a soy milk protein formula revitalizes dry/damaged hair, it moisturizes as it cleans leaving hair silky and smooth and keeps color treated hair looking great. I use too many additional products on my hair to say whether or not the product delivered in these areas. Also, I do not have color treated hair.

If you are looking for a cheap conditioner to aid in detangling, I strongly recommend this product for you! The ingredients are not horrible; it does a great job getting out tangles and best of all it is dirt cheap! I can buy a few bottles for what I would spend on another leading drugstore brand. This product is affordable for any budget and is effective so give it a try and see how it works for you!
