Katy Perry Backs Out of the People’s Choice Awards

While her fans and the curious public anxiously awaited their first glimpse of the singer since the announcement of her divorce, Katy Perry is making everyone wait a little bit longer.

The newly-single pop star was scheduled to attend this Wednesday night’s (January 11) People’s Choice Awards, but unfortunately has just announced that she will no longer be making an appearance.

Breaking the news via her Twitter account on Monday (January 9) – just two days ahead of the ceremony – Miss Perry wrote, “Unfortunately I will not be able to attend.”

While quite clear that she needs a bit more time away from the spotlight after splitting from Russell Brand, Katy opted against writing out the reason for skipping the event.

Still in the running for a total of seven trophies (1 in Cinema, 1 in Television and 5 in Music), Perry did offer an appreciative message to her fans, as she added, “I want to thank u all for voting for me, fingers crossed! #KATYCATS.”

After a week of silence, Katy Perry made her first comments since breaking up with Russell Brand this past Saturday (January 7) .

The “Hot N Cold” singer chose to address the public via Twitter, writing, “I am so grateful for all the love and support I’ve had from people around the world. You guys have made my heart happy again.”

The 27-year-old proceeded to voice her unhappiness with the media’s speculative coverage of her divorce from Russell, as she messaged, “Concerning the gossip, I want to be clear that NO ONE speaks for me. Not a blog, magazine, ‘close sources’ or my family.”

Though it wasn’t a major shock when Katy and Russell announced their split, the “Firework” songstress leaked a new track that seems uncanny in its timing.

The Jessie James song “Bullet” was co-written by Perry, and a demo with Katy singing recently hit the internet.

Perry sings, “My mama warned me about boys like you/ It’s the reason I wear these high-heeled boots/ And let me give you a little piece of advice/ My papa packs heat and he won’t think twice.”

“I’m a bullet and I’m headed/ Straight for your heart/ Be careful what you start/ I’m a bullet and I’m headed/ Straight for your heart/ It’s gonna leave a mark,” she continues in the chorus.

As for the high-profile split, entertainment journalist David Caplan shared, “From the get-go, I thought they were a sort of odd, mismatched pair. She’s so glamorous, pop and sexy, and he is diametrically not like that. He’s a nice and funny guy, and from my encounters with her, I found her to be funny, have a sarcastic edge and a blast, but they weren’t a match. Plus, she’s more of a partier than he now, so their lifestyles were at odds.”
