Jot Down Quick Notes in Google Chrome with Quickrr Notepad

Sometimes when you want to write down a quick note or reminder to yourself, a word processor or text editor isn’t quick enough, and there’s no pen and paper handy. Maybe someone just gave your their address, phone number or email address, or you saw something online and wanted to write down the model number, price, or website. For those times, it’s nice to have a quick notepad right in your web browser. A good example of a useful utility is Quickrr Notepad, available as an extension for Google Chrome.

Quickrr is the group behind a large number of Google Chrome extensions as of late. There is a Quickrr extension for keeping a to-do list, a calendar, performing translations and currency conversions, accessing Google Maps, playing games and more. They’re all simple to use, yet hide pretty convenient features in that simple interface, at least among the ones I’ve used. Quickrr Notepad is no exception.

Once installed, Quickrr Notepad places a little icon in your Google Chrome toolbar (the icon looks like a sticky note with a thumbtack in one corner). Click that icon, and a small pop-up window appears, with an informative “Input text here” message. Click that area and write your note. To end the note, click the line above (with today’s date), and it will be minimized and the date removed to show the first line.

As you add notes to Quickrr Notepad, new ones are always at the top, and the oldest at the bottom. If you have multiple notes, the most recent will always be fully visible when you open Quickrr Notepad, while the older ones on the bottom will only show a single line. As you hover over each note, an icon will appear on the far right of the line, representing the note expanding. Click anywhere in the line and this note will expand and the others shrink. When you’re finished with a note, simply click the trash can icon, and it will be deleted.

Quickrr Notepad also has a row of tiny icons at the top of the pop-up. Sadly, all but one of these are fairly unimportant and only take up space. From left to right, these allow you to visit the Quickrr.com website, “Like” Quickrr Notepad on Facebook, Tweet a link to the Quickrr Notepad page on the Google Webstore, or visit the Google Webstore entry. The final icon is truly the only useful one; it allows you to view your Quickrr Notepad as a pop-up window.

All in all, Quickrr Notepad is pretty nice. It doesn’t have any synchronizing ability, so if you use it on a couple different computers, your notes won’t be available to you except when you’re on the original computer. Still, for someone with basic note-writing needs, Quickrr Notepad is a nice option that works well.
