Jets Vs. Broncos: 2011 Thursday Night Football TV Time & Predictions

The 2011 Thursday Night Football game between the New York Jets and Denver Broncos is scheduled for November 17 (8:20 PM EST) at Sports Authority Field. NFL Network will provide TV coverage for this contest. This article offers predictions for the NFL primetime game between the Jets (5-4) and Broncos (4-5).

On paper, New York is the clear favorite to win this contest. The Jets were the AFC championship finalist last season, while the Broncos finished 2010 with 8 losses. Coming into this season, New York was one of the big favorites to win the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, the tables appear to have turned for both NY and Denver. The Broncos, despite their offensive issues, have as much a chance to make the postseason as the more fancied Jets.

For either team, this contest is pivotal. The winner of this game will have a very good shot at earning a playoff berth. With both teams being very sound defensively, the outcome will come down to Tim Tebow and Mark Sanchez. Whichever player (and his system) fares better will ultimately determine the result.

For Denver to win this game, Tim Tebow will need a strong rushing day as well as a decent passing performance. While Tebow is not a conventional QB, he does need to throw enough accurate passes to keep the Jets honest. Another 25% passing day like last Sunday will be a big problem against a formidable defense like New York.

For New York to win this game, Mark Sanchez will need to perform better. Sanchez struggled mightily last Monday against a New England’s defense that ranks last in the NFL in passing defense. Against a much stronger Denver’s defense, Sanchez can’t afford another poor performance.

The Broncos have played well against mediocre teams, while have struggled against quality opponents. If one considers New York to be a good team, Denver will have a tough time beating the Jets. Otherwise, the benefit of the doubt goes to the home team, the Denver Broncos.

My prediction – Pesky Broncos upset the Jets 20-17; Tebow will run for 100 yards.
