Ideas for Decorating and Furnishing a Tiered Deck

A tiered deck adds a great amount of value to a home, and not just monetary value. It provides a fantastic outdoor living area with sections on various levels. Some are designed with multiple levels that serve a variety of purposes. Furnishing and decorating it can be as enjoyable as sharing it with family and friends.

I had a beautiful three-tiered deck when I lived in Eastern Indiana, and I enjoyed furnishing and decorating it with my favorite cushioned wicker chairs, beautiful planters filled with variegated vines and flowers and an area to BBQ and dine outdoors. Consider my ideas for furnishing and decorating your tiered deck, and make it an outdoor living space that you will want to use for entertaining, relaxing, container gardening and more.

Consider Furnishing a Level of your Tiered Deck with Wicker

I used the mid section of my triple-tiered deck for rest, relaxation and fine outdoor dining. I choose high-quality painted wicker furniture with soft comfy indoor/outdoor cushions that were easy to clean. I placed a table and umbrella in the center of my tiered deck and arranged the furnishings around it. Off to one side I added a wicker recliner with an ultra-thick cushion. It was more comfortable than my living room sofa, and I spent many hours reading and knitting in that recliner.

Light Up a Corner with a Stylish Electric Lamppost

The first section of my tiered deck was directly beyond the French doors that led to my dining room. I used this section of my tiered deck as a passage way and a place to grow container plants. When decorating and furnishing this tier I placed a stylish electric lamppost in the far outer corner. This was an ideal place for the old-fashioned lamppost. It lit up the entire tier and the stairs that led down to the yard.

Add a Pergola, a Built-In Bench and Beautiful Blooming Vines

On the opposite side of this portion of my tiered deck I chose a live floral decorating scheme. I had a pergola built along one side along with a wooden bench beneath it. I planted cyclamen on both sides of the pergola, and in a few years it was covered with beautiful flowering vines. The bench provided a place to sit and relax, and the furnishings added to the outdoor decorating scheme.

Use One Tier for Outdoor Cooking

The third section of my tiered outdoor deck was used for food preparation. I choose a large Jenn-Air gas grill when furnishing this section of my tiered deck, and I had it connected to a permanent gas line. This eliminated the need to refill portable gas tanks multiple times each year. I grilled most of our meals in the warmer weeks of spring, summer and fall. I also decided on furnishing this part of my tiered deck with a couple of comfortable chairs that matched the other wicker pieces.

I no longer have this beautiful tiered deck since I moved from my home in eastern Indiana. However, I plan to have my own home again, and I want to duplicate the design. I loved furnishing and decorating this outdoor living area as much as I enjoyed using it, and it will forever be one of my fondest memories of my beautiful lake home.
