How to Repair Crumbling Compact Makeup

Uh-oh, you got a small stain on your shirt. Do you throw it out in the garbage? Of course not. You use various laundering products on it to try to get the stain out and, if that doesn’t work, you might dye the shirt, change the look with shirt paints, or even sew on an applique. But you don’t throw it away until you’ve exhausted all means of hiding the stain. We treat our clothing, furniture and belongings that way because they cost money. Should we do any less for our makeup? Makeup might not cost a huge amount of money, so some people might just throw it out if there’s a problem with it, but if you’re a bit thriftier than that consider fixing what’s wrong with your makeup just as you would a stained shirt. But you don’t have to go to the lengths you would go to in order to get rid of a stain. If your solid foundation makeup is giving you trouble, and you’re ready to toss it, just do a little repair work on it instead.

The most common problem with solid foundation makeup is that, after using it a few times, it begins to crumble. If you’re carrying the compact in your purse you end up with makeup powder all over the inside of your pocketbook. If you don’t carry your compact you just end up with makeup powder all over your clothing as soon as you open it. Many women throw away a compact whose makeup has started crumbling because it’s just too messy. There’s a quick fix, though, that can help you save money on so many compacts. Just do the little fix trick and your compact will look brand new again.

Open your compact and you can repair it quickly. Put a drop or two of rubbing alcohol directly onto the solid makeup. Use a small implement, like a cotton swab, to stir the alcohol into the makeup. Start with just a drop and add another and another, if needed, until you have a paste. Stir the paste well then use another implement to smooth the makeup back into a cake form. The back of a disposable spoon works well but you could also use a popsicle stick or something similar.

Smooth the makeup into the compact and leave it overnight. The rubbing alcohol will evaporate but will leave your makeup looking like it did when you purchased it. This quick and easy fix will keep you from throwing away compact after compact simply because the makeup is crumbling. Use the same technique to repair crumbling, powdered eye shadow or blush, too.
