How to Mount a Flat Panel TV

At less than 4 inches thick, flat panel televisions are much thinner than traditional television sets. They also tend to be significantly wider and taller than traditional televisions. Owners who wish to place a flat panel television in a cabinet typically need to modify the cabinet.

Things You’ll Need:

Wall mount Socket wrench Pencil Stud finder Carpenter’s level Fasten a wall mount behind your flat panel television using the included hardware. Locate the studs behind the television cabinet with a stud finder. Mark these locations with a pencil. Place the bracket for the wall mount against the wall behind the cabinet so that all the bracket’s mounting holes are in front of a stud. Ensure the bracket will be level when you mount it to the wall. Mark the locations for the bracket’s mounting holes with a pencil. Drill holes for the bracket that are the same size as the mounting bolts. Place the bracket against the wall so that the holes in the bracket align with the holes you just drilled into the wall. Fasten the bracket to the wall with its mounting bolts. Install the flat panel television onto its wall mount according to the instructions for the wall mount. Adjust the position of the flat panel television as needed and move the cabinet into position so that the television is centered within the cabinet space. Ensure the television is correctly positioned and insert the security screw into the wall mount to lock the television into place.
