Honduras- Join the Wild Monkeys at GumbaLimba Park!- GumbaLimba Park- Hold the Monkeys and Birds- Attractions- Roatan Island,

By Sandy Zimmerman

What can you do on an island? Roatan Island is filled with activities that transport you into the world of nature. The GumbaLimba Park offers the widest variety of choices in any nature park I have ever seen! There are wild monkeys, birds, Canopy Tours, SNUBA,

see- through kayaks, scuba diving, swimming, and much, much more!

First we walked through the animal preserve jungle setting and were surprised to see monkeys sitting on the branches in the trees above us. Suddenly one of the monkeys jumped on mike’s head! A friendly monkey made himself comfortable on my shoulder while another was trying to find the recorder in my pocket. Other monkeys were peaking their heads out of the wooden houses in the trees. It was exciting to be so close to wild animals! The monkeys were all around us. Monkey Town is one of the few opportunities to interact with wild monkeys.

Next we went to the Canopy Tour’s Zip line, beginning at the top of the mountain the ride takes us soaring through the jungle and down to the beach in two thrilling hours. I dressed in special gear, similar to that used in rock and mountain climbing, with heavy gloves, pulley, safety belt, hat, harness, and jump suit. The cable stops at the top of each tree while the professional guide always catches you. The rider travels to 24 different platforms with 18 different cables. It is as though you are Tarzan flying through the air from platform to platform! Only he used swinging vines! The guides demonstrated how they ride upside down and as Superman.

You will have your own personal glass bottom boat and will not miss anything! This human powered boat is propelled by a double-bladed oar.

Have you ever heard of SNUBA? Snuba® was created for those who enjoy the simplicity of snorkeling and would like to experience the wonders of breathing underwater. Snuba® is an unique, patented shallow water diving system, bridging the gap between snorkeling and scuba diving. An oxygen tank is placed on a rubber raft to float on top of the water with a hose running down to your regulator while you walk 20′ underwater. You breathe normally. This is similar to scuba diving. You do not need any previous scuba diving or snorkeling experience. For 45 minutes, experience all of the wonders under the sea. We spent three hours at the park and did not cover half of the things to do. Only 15 minutes from Gumbalimba Park is “Anthony’s Key Resort, the BEST REASON TO VISIT ROATAN ISLAND”!
