Harry Potter and Jerry Seinfeld

In my opinion, Jerry Seinfeld and Harry Potter have something in common. Think about it. How would they have achieved such fame without their trusty sidekicks? Would Harry have found the Horcruxes without Hermione and Ron? Would the Seinfeld show have made it to a second season without Elaine, George, and Kramer? Let’s explore.

Exploring the sidekicks similarities:

The Ladies:

Let’s have a look at the ladies in the support system. Hermione Granger is a bright, quirky, spitfire who hangs out with boys. Sound familiar? She is very sure of herself until it comes to getting the boy she wants, Ron. Frankly, she becomes wishy washy when she is sorting out her feelings for that boy of hers.
Elaine Benes is a bright, quirky, spitfire who hangs out with men. Elaine acts goofy around men that interest her. When she is in a relationship, she cannot be pleased.
Both are strong and assertive yet seem to lose their way when dealing with members of the opposite sex. Unless, of course, they are dealing with friends. Males are their friends of choice. Did I forget to mention the hair? Early on, both sidekicks sported long, curly, bushy locks. Later on, we were treated to a straighter, sleeker coif.
The Men:
What can we say about the men who supported their famous head honchos? Ron Weasley has a shock of bright red hair. It is quite a distinguishing feature. He is, sorry Ron, a little awkward. He is shy around girls and gets a bit feisty to cover up his shyness. I mean, why do he and Hermione constantly argue, right? Ron is also the least well off of the group.
This comparison is tricky. You need to keep an open mind and combine the next two characters into one man, or boy. George Costanza is a nervous guy who over thinks everything. He has a tough time around the ladies. This can lead to off the wall comments that generally leave him dateless. Now, Cosmo Kramer has a wild mop of hair. It has to be twelve inches high. He is an awkward cat who is not employed enough to file a tax return. How does he pay rent in New York City?

Making my point:

You might have to dig deep to understand where I am going with this comparison. Here is how I see it. Harry and Jerry are like average Joes with a certain special something that makes them different. They are definitely the stars of their worlds; however, would any of their success have been possible without their friends? They are two guys that have abilities but need their supporting cast to make them great. The fact that these friends have a certain likeness is a thread worth pulling. Or, am I over thinking? George?
