Hanna: Best Movie of 2011

Wouldn’t life be so much more exciting if we were raised from birth to assassinate someone?

Of course it would!

Well that is the plot audiences have witnessed when Hanna was released in April of this year.

What is Hanna about?

Hanna, played by Saoirse Ronan, grows up learning about life only through two sources: her father Erik (Eric Bana) and an outdated Encyclopedia.

Her daily lessons include hunting, hand-to-hand combat, and in-depth cultural analysis. All lessons lead to serve one purpose-avenge her mother’s death by killing her assassin Marissa (Cate Blanchett).

What makes Hanna great?

The Acting. The performances in this movie are amazing. In particular, Saoirse Ronan’s performance as an assassin and socially awkward young lady is simply remarkable. It will be no surprise that her performances in previous roles (Atonement and The Lovely Bones) and future ones will only contribute her rise in Hollywood.

Also, Hanna’s new found companion Sophie, played by Jessica Barden, brings a humorous element into the movie. The contrast of personalities between the two shows how complex Hanna is as a character.

The Soundtrack. The movie soundtrack is composed entirely by The Chemical Brothers (also known for their work in Black Swan) and it was so great that I even got myself a copy. My favorites are Hanna’s Theme (Vocal Version) and The Devil is in the Details.

The story is presented like an assassin fairy tale. A young lady who has all the skills needed to survive, but still struggles to find all the answers there is to life.

Hanna will simply capture your mind and heart and may even reel you in for a several viewings as it has done to me.

In combination with the elements listed above Hanna’s story and presentation simply makes it one of the top ranked movies of 2011. A Must-See!
