God’s Mysterious Ways

Proverbs 30:4 Who has gone up to heaven and come down? Who has gathered up the wind in the hollow of his hands? Who has wrapped up the waters in his cloak? Who has established all the ends of the earth? (NIV)

They disappeared when I was a young boy, never to be found. Many searches were made but with no discovery.

What happened to the three rubber balls was a mystery. I don’t recall where I got them, but I remember the day I bounced them in my grandmother’s hallway. They scattered in all directions and then disappeared.

We often talked about that incident and occasionally looked behind furniture and in closets to see if we might discover them. Their location remained an unsolved mystery.

Most people like a good mystery. They keep us in suspense. We become engrossed in the story wondering what will happen next and who the culprit might be.

Agur-the person who asked these questions, is a mystery. And his questions are similar to the ones God asked Job. Agur wondered about mysteries surrounding God and God told Job he needed to. God is not a mystery to figure out, but his ways often are.

It’s a mystery how God takes horrible events and brings good from them. And why he chooses to heal some people from deadly diseases and not others. I often wonder why some find gold in everything they touch while others rot in poverty. Or why he allows some children to be born to abusive parents. I have many questions, the answers to which will remain a mystery like the location of the rubber balls.

More mysterious is why God continues to love me in spite of my continual shortcomings? Why he keeps offering more opportunities when I fail more than I succeed? Or why he would want to prepare a beautiful place for him and me to live eternally?

God may be mysterious, but his love isn’t. He can always be trusted to act in our best interest and to formulate good plans for our future.

Prayer: May the mystery of Your love always draw us closer to You O Lord our Savior and Redeemer. www.morningliteministry.com
