Foreign Land

Just to the west of Memphis,
On the other side of the line,
There’s a girl who is crying,
Wondering why her daddy died.

He went off to fight a war,
In a land he did not know.
Where the grass isn’t quiet as green,
And trees, they do not grow.

Desert Storm or Vietnam,
You know it’s all the same.
War is war and people die,
It matters not the name.

So listen to these words my friend,
Just try to understand,
And please don’t send my daddy off to die,
In a foreign land.

She was only eight years old,
She could not know the price,
That her twenty-six year old father,
Had to pay with his life.

He had a wife and family,
To the west of Tennessee.
But now they’re all alone,
‘Cause he’s dying to be free.

So Desert Storm or Vietnam,
You know it’s all the same.
War is war and people die,
It matters not the name.

So listen to these words my friend,
Just try to understand,
And please don’t send my daddy off to die,
In a foreign land,
In a foreign land,
Alone, in a foreign land.
