Favorite Fall Season TV Shows

The 2011 Fall TV season lacks some of the more unique shows released in previous seasons, such as Lost and Sanctuary. Even though they aren’t unique, I’ve watched a few noteworthy new shows. I’m not sure one of the TV shows is well made, but I was drawn to it for sentimental reasons. The other three shows encouraged me to sit in front of the television.

Unforgettable

A cop with a perfect memory isn’t unique, but Unforgettable should last at least a couple of seasons. Both the main stars are excellent actors and the script is well written. An ex-cop, Carrie Wells, portrayed by Poppy Montgomery (Without a Trace), has a perfect memory and a childhood trauma she can’t remember. To avoid dealing with the painful memories of her sister’s death, Carrie quit the police force as a homicide detective. Years after quitting, she runs into murder and her ex-boyfriend, Dylan Walsh (Nip/Tuck). By helping her ex-boyfriend solve a murder, which happens on the doorstep of her apartment building, Carrie ends up back on the police force.

Person of Interest

When I started watching this TV show, I was reminded of the Tom Cruise movie Minority Report. Unlike the movie, the show doesn’t delve into the moral issues of convicting criminals before they commit the crime. Person of Interest is about protecting innocent victims. A scientist portrayed by Michael Emerson (Lost) created a complex computer program that monitors the electronic activity of everyone. The program provides social security numbers of people who are potential victims of crimes. James Caviezel (The Prisoner) portrays John Reese an ex-CIA operative hired to stalk the potential victims to protect them. I wasn’t sure about this new action thriller, but the script surprised me with a few interesting twists that will keep me coming back.

Prime Suspect

This remake is my favorite new show in this list because it’s gritty with fantastic acting and a great script. The original show was a popular 1990s British TV series, also called Prime Suspect. Jane Timoney (Maria Bello) is a new detective in an all men’s homicide department. The detectives leave her out of cases and verbally torment her, but she’s straight forward, honest, and relentless. When a case is given to her due to a tragedy, she proves that she can do the job. I hope that this show lasts as long in US as it did in the UK.

Charlie’s Angels

I have to admit a little disappointment in the voice of Charlie. The voice of the original Charlie, John Forsythe, was incredible and unique. Robert Wagner was temporarily the voice of the new Charlie, but I’m looking forward to hearing Victor Garber (Alias) as Charlie. I’m sure the three new angels (Rachael Taylor, Minka Kelly, and Annie Ilonzeh ) will help create a great crime fighting show. Especially with Rachael Taylor (Transformers, Grey’s Anatomy) who has shown great acting skills in her previous roles. They honor the 1970s show by giving a glimpse of the original Bosley before the camera moves to the new Bosley played by Ramon Rodriquez. Even though Charlie’s Angels may not be the season’s best new show, I’m hoping the show will be around for a while, if only to reminisce about the original Charlie’s Angels.
