Every crochet enthusiast has a basket, or similar container, full of scrap yarn. The quandary arises of what exactly to do with all the scrap yarn. The answer is to crochet several mug rugs or coasters to protect your furniture from nasty water rings.
Things You’ll Need:
Scrap yarn
Size G/4.25 mm crochet hook
Scissors
Instructions:
Row 1 – Chain 2 stitches. Single crochet 6 times in the second chain stitch from the hook. Attach the last stitch to the first stitch in the row with a slipstitch in this row and each row thereafter.
Row 2 – Single crochet in the same stitch as the slipstitch. Single crochet twice in each stitch around for a total of 12 stitches. Join.
Row 3 – Single crochet in the same stitch as the slipstitch. Single crochet twice in each stitch around for a total of 24 stitches. Join.
Row 4 – Single crochet in each stitch around. Join.
Row 5 – Single crochet in the same stitch as the slipstitch. Complete 2 single crochet stitches in the next stitch and one in the following – repeat the pattern around for a total of 36 stitches.
Row 6 – Single crochet in each stitch around. Join.
Row 7 – Single crochet in the same stitch as the slipstitch and in the next stitch. Complete 2 single crochet stitches in the following stitch and one single crochet in the next two stitches – repeat the pattern around for a total of 48 stitches. Join.
Row 8 – Single crochet in each stitch around. Join.
Row 9 – Single crochet in the same stitch as the slipstitch and in the next two stitches. Complete 2 single crochet stitches in the following stitch and 1 single crochet stitch in the next three stitches – repeat the pattern around for a total of 60 stitches. Join.
Row 10 – Single crochet in each stitch around. Join. Finish off. Weave the cut end back and forth through the last row of stitching.
To make the pattern smaller, eliminate the last two rows. To make the pattern larger, alternate each row by adding 12 stitches to one then single crochet in the second.
