I try not to watch news as much and every time I do, I just always have this sunken feeling so I typically stay away from watching news and reading the papers. I do get my weather updates though. I know some people can’t live without knowing what is going on in the world and that’s not a bad thing. It’s always good to know what is taking place around you.
The issue is how much time do you spend daily on trying to find out on what is going on in the world, which typically consist of bad news? I feel the more time you spend on worrying about what is going on in the world, the more your stress level and anxieties will increase. As a Christian I have to constantly evaluate how I spend my time. The reason for this is because, my ultimate goal is to draw closer to God and that means I have to eliminate, evaluate and make a decision daily if I am going to cater my attention to the world or to God. I choose God. God has promise and has deliver to me a peace of mind and joy in my heart no matter what is taking place around me. The world in all the years I have live, never did this for me; in fact, the world gave me the total opposite. We lived in a very evil, dangerous world right now and as the word says, this will increase as we get nearer to the end.
“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, truce breakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.” 2 Timothy 3:1-7 .
You can see all these forms of evil every where you turn, at your workplace, communities, in schools and even in our homes. The word of God is true. If you really want to know what is happening in the world presently and in the future, just read your bible. It’s all there. That is why I firmly believe drawing closer to God and having a solid relationship with Him is the way to truly succeed in life and in this world.
This world was created to fade away, 1 John 2:17 , but the word of God and everything about God was created to stay the same, today, yesterday and forever more, Hebrews 13:8 . Which one would you put your trust in? You can find tons of scriptures of God asking us to seek Him, so we may find Him and find life. Why is that? I believe it’s because He loves us and wants the best for our lives, not the imitation life the world tries to give to us. However, we have to want Him as much as He wants us. You have to take the necessary steps to draw closer to God, as He states in His word, if you draw closer to Him, He will draw closer to you”, James 4:8. How many people do you know have your best interest at heart like God does? How many people you know have given up their son, so you can have life, John 3:16 ?
