DALLAS COWBOY’S FAN, SEASON JOURNAL ENTRY #10

The Dallas Cowboys, took a ride on the Romo Coaster yesterday. Did anyone tell you in advance, the Cowboys would win the turnover battle 4 to 2 yesterday against the Patriots? Did you believe them? Well that is exactly what happened. Rob Ryan and the Cowboys defense played well enough to win. They held the best offense in the National Football League to 20 points. They controlled the game with steady pressure on Tom Brady. If he was not getting hit, he was getting hurried, and they got to him for 3 sacks. They intercepted him twice, they were on him the entire game. They played well enough to win.

The offense on the other hand did not. The running game is still missing in action. 77 rushing yards, are you kidding me? The Patriots came into the game DEAD LAST against the run. When the Cowboys needed to be able to run the ball to preserve a win, they very simply, could not do it. More and more, the losing this year falls at Jerry Jones feet. Why could you not keep the offensive lineman you let go Jerry? Everyone is on Romo, like white on rice, and he deserves all the criticism coming his way. But a running game would change some of it. The shuffle pass, spoke volumes of the coaching staff’s opinion of the offensive line. What it said was, we are not good enough upfront, so lets try to trick them. Yea, good call, Garrett, good call.

The Cowboys with even a decent running game could be 5 and 0, no worse than 4 and 1. Without one, they could end up 6 and 10. Everyone knows that pro football is a passing game, but every once and awhile, YOU HAVE TO RUN THE BALL, control the clock, and make the other team catch up. The way the Cowboys do it, the other team just has to wait. The fourth quarter is when you put teams away, and the teams playing the Cowboys, know they can not get it done.

The best thing happening to the Cowboys right now, THE RANGERS. The Rangers going to the World Series, has given the fans in Dallas a distraction. I have been here for along time, the Cowboys are lucky to have the Rangers and Mavericks. Danny White, he could tell Tony Romo how it is to choke when the Rangers are not in the playoffs. The fans and the media would be making it unbearable for Romo. The fans and media lived in White’s butt, he could not get away from it. Losing 3 straight NFC Championships, and he was basically ran out of town. Romo should buy season Ranger tickets. If the Rangers were not in the playoffs, Romo, would be roadkill here in Dallas. The fans and the media might give Romo a free pass, if he could just get the Cowboys to the NFC Championship game. Maybe if he could just hold a lead.

The Cowboys still have time to right the ship, but these games being lost in the fourth quarter have to stop. If not, The Romo Coaster will get derailed, and him and Jason Garrett will be on one of those carnival caravans looking for suckers in the next city or at the next state fair. Jerry Jones has been called a snake oil salesman before, by those in the media. Jerry’s World is starting to remind me of the Midway at the State Fair of Texas. Looks good from a distance, but up close, you can see the mirrors and strings.
