MEASUREMENTS:

Circumference: 38″

Height: 16″

MATERIALS:

· 2 skeins Medium Weight yarn (Sample shown is Lion Brand Yarn Vanna’s Choice in Brick) · Size 9 (5.5 mm) circular needle · Size 10 ½ (6.5mm) circular needle · Stitch marker · Tapestry needle

GAUGE:

16 sts X 22 rows = 4″/10 cm square in Stockinette Stitch on size 9 needles or size needed to obtain gauge. To save time, take the time to check gauge.

COWL

(Note: cowl is knitted in the round and when knitting in the round all rows are knitted as RS rows, also place a marker to indicate beg/end of row)

With size 9 (5.5mm) circular needle cast on 154 sts (Be careful not to twist yarn) and work 2″ of k1, p1, rib. Change to size 10 ½ (6.5mm) circular needle, decreasing 4 sts evenly spaced around; 150 sts rem.

Row 1: *k1, yo, skp, k5, k2tog, yo; rep from * to end

Row 2 & all alt rows: knit

Row 3: * k1, yo, k1, skp, k3, k2tog, k1, yo; rep from * to end

Row 5: *k1, yo, k2, skp, k1, k2tog, k2, yo; rep from * to end

Row 7: *k1, yo, k3, sk2p, k3, yo; rep from * to end

Row 9: k3, *k2tog, yo, k1, yo, skp, k5; rep from * to last 7 sts; k2tog, yo, k1, yo, skp, k2

Row 11: k2, *k2tog, k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, skp, k3; rep from * to last 8 sts; k2tog; k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, skp, k1

Row 13: k1, * k2tog, k2, yo, k1, yo, k2, skp, k1; rep from * to last 9 sts, k2tog, k2, yo, k1, yo, k2, skp

Row 15: k2tog; pick-up last st of previous row and pass it over the k2tog, * k3, yo, k1, yo, k3, sk2p; rep from * to last 7 sts; k3, yo, k1, yo, k3

Row 16: repeat row 2
Repeat rows 1 through 16 two more times, then change back to size 9 (5.5mm) circular needles and work 2″ of k1, p1, rib; then bind off all rem sts in pattern; finally weave in all loose ends.
