Best Recipes for Macaroni and Cheese

Macaroni and cheese is at the top of the ‘comfort food’ list for most adults. Since it is also one of the only foods children will eat willingly, macaroni and cheese is found frequently at many dinner tables. If you’re looking for a way to add a little variety to your dinner menu, try any of these delicious macaroni and cheese recipe. Guaranteed to comfort and satisfy, and will please even the most picky eaters.

Comforting Macaroni and Cheese

This macaroni and cheese recipe is one that my Grandmother used to make me when I was a little girl. No matter how bad of a day you are having, THIS macaroni and cheese will make all your troubles go away (even if just for awhile). This is comfort food at it’s finest.

– 8 ounces elbow macaroni (cooked)
– 2 cups milk
– 8 ounces cream cheese
– 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
– Salt & pepper
– 1/4 cup butter
– 2 cups cheddar cheese (shredded)

– 1 cup plain bread crumbs
– 2 tbsp butter

In a large pan, melt together the butter and flour. Cook (and stir) until it begins to bubble. Whisk in cream cheese, milk, and salt and pepper. Cook until it begins to thicken. Add the cheese and stir until melted and then toss in the noodles. Pour mixture into a baking dish.

In a small bowl, melt the butter and then add the bread crumbs. Crumble mixture over the macaroni and cheese. Bake at 400 for about 20 minutes

Hamburger Macaroni and Cheese

This macaroni and cheese recipe is one that I whipped up myself, and I must say….it is AMAZING! Because it included hamburger, it is served as a main dish. Kids and adults alike agree that this macaroni and cheese recipe is one of the best they’ve ever tasted. I think you’ll agree. Best of all, it’s easy to throw together on a busy work night.

– 1 ½ lb ground beef
– Small onion (diced)
– 1 box Velveeta Macaroni & Cheese
– 1 14.5 ounce can of Basil & Oregano diced tomatoes
– Salt & pepper

Brown hamburger and onion. Drain fat. Put the hamburger & onion back in the pan. Open the package of Velveeta Macaroni & Cheese and add the noodles only. Pour in the tomatoes and stir everything together. Season with salt and pepper and cook 20 minutes (covered). Remove the lid and add the Velveeta cheese packet. Stir and remove from heat. Let sit five minutes before serving

Macaroni and Cheese with Bacon

Served with a salad, you could easily make this macaroni and cheese recipe the main course for your meal. It’s cheesy and filling, and something that the kids would enjoy eating.

– 8 ounces Rotini pasta (cooked)
– 8 ounces cheddar cheese
– ½ pound bacon (cooked)
– 2 tbsp butter
– 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
– Salt and pepper
– 1 ½ cups milk
– 1 ripe tomato

Cut bacon into bite-sized pieces and fry until crisp. Drain on paper towels. Cook pasta according to package directions and drain.

In a saucepan, melt butter on low heat. Stir in flour, and salt & pepper until smooth. Wisk in milk and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to a low simmer and add cheese. Stir until melted and remove from heat.

Pour pasta noodles into a baking dish and top with bacon. Add butter mixture. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes (uncovered) and then top with sliced tomatoes. Bake an additional 5 – 10 minutes. Let macaroni and cheese sit for 5 minutes before eating.

Zesty Macaroni and Cheese

Ranch dressing gives this macaroni and cheese recipe a zesty flavor. Whenever I serve this dish, guests always ask what gives it it’s unique taste. Be prepared to share this recipe, as people always ask for it once they taste this dish.

– 1 lb elbow macaroni (cooked)
– 1 cup milk
– ¼ cup butter
– Salt & pepper
– 2 envelopes Hidden-Valley Ranch Salad Dressing mix
– 1 cup Colby cheese (shredded)
– 1 cup Monterey Jack cheese (shredded)
– 1 cup sour cream
– ½ cup Ritz Crackers
– 2 tbsp butter
– Parmesan Cheese

In a large pot or Dutch oven, melt butter, cheese and milk together. Cook until melted and thickened. Add sour cream, noodles, and salad dressing mix. Pour into a baking dish and sprinkle with parmesan cheese. In a small bowl, melt two tablespoons of butter, Crush Ritz crackers and coat them with the butter. Sprinkle on top of the macaroni and cheese and bake at 350 for 20 – 30 minutes.

Alfredo Macaroni and Cheese

For something completely different, try this recipe for Alfredo Macaroni & Cheese. It’s rich and delicious, and very simply to put together.

– 3 cups penne pasta
– 16 ounces Alfredo sauce
– Salt & pepper
– ½ teaspoon parsley
– ½ teaspoon basil
– ½ cup frozen peas

Topping –

1 cup Italian bread crumbs
2 tablespoons butter

Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain pasta and return to pot. Pour in the Alfredo sauce and all other ingredients. Pour into baking dish. In a separate bowl, melt butter and add the bread crumbs. Coat well. Sprinkle the topping on top of the macaroni and cheese. Bake (uncovered) at 350 for 20 – 30 minutes.
