Celebrate the cranberry in all its wonder at the Harvest Celebration this fall. The 8th Annual Harvest Celebration will be held in Wareham on October 9th and 10th, 2011. Activities run from 10:00AM – 4:00PM each day. This fall event is great for families. Take a tour of a working cranberry bog and learn about how these versatile fruits are harvested. Watch cooking demonstrations, let the kids enjoy a pony ride, and explore the craft vendors. Food vendors will also be present showcasing fall favorites including the cranberry. This festival is the perfect way to get in the mood for fall in New England and all the beauty it has to offer.

Bourne Scallop Fest

Everyone knows the Cape is a great place to enjoy some of the freshest seafood around. Bourne celebrates the sweet scallop during its annual fall festival in the park. The American Bus Association has rated this festival among its top 100 events. This year’s events will take place September 23rd – 25th. Marking the festival’s 42nd year, come and enjoy a roasted chicken or scallop dinner. A food court offers beer and wine as well as other seafood specialties like fresh lobster rolls in addition to hamburgers and hotdogs and other fair favorites. Various craft booths attend the festival and there is a midway with traditional fair rides and games for the family to enjoy as well. Live performers entertain crowds throughout the festival too. It’s a celebration of some of the best the Cape has to offer.

Yarmouth Seaside Festival

The 33rd Annual Yarmouth Seaside Festival will take place from October 8th – 10th, 2011. This festival includes a family parade and 5k race on October 9th. There is also a kayak/canoe race and several traditional fair competitions, from a greased pole race to the ever popular pie eating contest. Over 125 crafters from around the country will come to Yarmouth Columbus Day weekend to share their products at this event. Live entertainment is provided throughout the day. There are games and rides for the family to enjoy and a fireworks display at night. This event grows each year, so come check out what 2011 has to offer at the Seaside Festival.

Wellfleet Oyster Fest

The Wellfleet Oyster Fest will take place October 15th and 16th, 2011. One highlight of this festival is the annual oyster shucking competition. The winner receives a $1,000 prize and a place at the national competition. You can take a tour of a Coast Guard rescue boat and a steamboat. Learn about the history of and watching cooking demonstrations featuring the oyster. Craft booths and food vendors will be present throughout the festival. Balloon animals, pumpkin painting, and face painting will be available for the kids. Sunday’s events include a 5k road race for adults and a 1.4 mile fun run for kids. This festival offers oysters and more for the whole family.

Eastham Windmill Weekend

You might not know what to expect at a “Windmill Weekend,” but come to Eastham from September 9th -11th and you will have a lot to discover. Events include road races for adults and children, sand sculpture contests, clam chowder contest, vehicle show, and bike raffles. Entertainment ranges from jugglers to square dancers to live bands and jump rope groups. There are games for the kids and an indoor craft show that is held rain or shine. Take a tour of a local lighthouse or watch the parade. Sunday offers a pancake breakfast and a tricycle race — so much more than windmills!
