Q: she got into a fight with this girl she knew and eventually said “your dad told my mum he loves her”and it was true and there whole family broke up and her mother(who was very distant and cold towards her in the first place) said “i hate you,i wish i never had you,you’re a stupid shithead” and my friend who was an ex self harmer and used to have eating disorders,and was already depressed just seemed to get worse,she stays out all night,she goes through bottles of whiskey like lord knows what,she’s ALWAYS on drugs…like a little is ok,but now its just non-stop..she says don’t worry,but she only does it cause she wants to feel something..she goes off with any guy that even glances at her,because “she just wants to feel cared about” she says drugs make her feel different,amazing..and without them she couldn’t cope..she’s fine around people but when she’s alone she’s horribly depressed our with me,she was bullied all through primary school and grew up with 2 friends who both abandoned her when they started secondary school,she dyed her hair and wheres trashy makeup,she goes to different countys on the bus,goes out and then if theres no busses back she sleeps in a field,outside the bus stop or else in someone she doesn’t even knows house..When she’s not drunk or on something when i speak to her,she could just randomly burst out crying…and then she stops,she overheard her dad saying he was going to kill her mother and stuff like that…you know she’s had a really horrible past,she smokes shes expelled from school for drug dealing and has been rejected from the other schools,she has no friends..she goes to different countys/towns as i said and goes drinking and gets high…she told me this “You’re gonna go big places…why do you talk to me? You’ll be a nurse,with all you’re nurse friends..and i’ll be the clingy girl in the backround untill eventually i will fade out all together,i will try heroin someday and that is going to be the end of me”also once her dad came to her house and threw her clothes at her when she was about 11 and said she didnt have a dad anymore..on her facebook she posted “i wish i could feel something real” on her status…her dad love is fake,she says..i mean he’s said and done so many horrible things she’s been threw so much..her dad used to “slap” her as well…but he wouldn’t slap her he’d leave bruises..you know she’s had a shit life,and she said she’s sick of trying…she says its like ice u hold it and it hurts so bad,but if u hold it long enough your hand goes numb,and you feel no more pain..She’s only 15…and as well you no rittalin? the adhd drug,she steals that from people she knows..like i know this cos one day she was in my house and she took about 11 of them with mdma..and i was so scared,she took a panadol overdose once,but nothing happened except she went stone cold and started shivering and the next thing she knew it was the next day and she woke up sweating,but as cold as iceshe’s gone wild,I WILL NOT REPORT HER PARENTSplease man,just help me talk some sense into her?she said she doesn’t trust me not to leave her like everyone else,how can i convince her i’m trusthworthyoh and she practically lives at my house anyway,well if she’s not out all night,or at home(she just stays in her room at home and says hello to her little brother and then leaves)like,what do i say?by the way shes athiest she believes science over god,and also she says some scary things like…she wonders if the world is even real,or if it’s just an illusion..and if people are real,or if she has unawarely planned out her whole life with her own imagination..i dunno..and she sleeps around with people in different countys to feel “cared about” and believe no-one could ever love someone like her,she saya “Mdma,that’s what love feels like.” she says she falls in lust but never love,noone could love her,she also says she feels like life is just like bing told you have so long to live,she says she feels like she’s just waiting to die..i dunnoooooooooSORRY IT’S SO LONG

A: It spite of its length, your friend is obviously in a lot of trouble. It would not be wise of you to take it upon yourself to “fix” her. Until she realizes that she is the main cause of her problems with alcohol, drugs, etc., there is nothing you can do. By allowing her to stay with you, you are enabling her behavior. The relationship will become one of codependency, and eventually you will resent her for it but be unable to figure out how to end it. Suggest that your friend see a therapist. If she is still generally living at home, talk with her father and tell him your concerns. Unless he is totally oblivious to her, he should realize she needs help. Your friendship with this girl is placing a burden on your shoulders that is not yours to bear. She will never be happy until she makes a determined effort on her own to fix her life.
