I have several health questions (a bit long)?
Q: I feel really sick after drinking only about three or four glasses of water a day, and I’d like to get to eight glasses of water. And yes, I do drink them throughout the day, not all at once. I have multiple reasons for not being able to drink the water.1) Gag reflex. Eating and drinking is difficult for me.2) If I don’t feel thirsty, drinking water will make me want to vomit. And it’s rare that I get thirsty.3) I drink rather slowly, like a few sips at a time. If I don’t, it feels as if the liquid’s coming right back up.I also constantly feel as if bile or stomach acid is making its way up to my throat, and it’s highly uncomfortable. It happens quite frequently, and I can’t get it to stop. Whenever I eat, mainly in public, I can’t get the food down. I can hardly even breathe after swallowing. As such, I find it difficult to eat regulated meals and tend to just snack on horrible foods throughout the day. I also get terrible headaches all the time and find that I’m exhausted just as often as I get the headaches. I find it difficult to get much sleep at night, and, often times, I only get about five or six hours a night. My questions are as followed:1) How would you suggest that I get the recommended daily amount of water? I tried taking bottles with me to school, but I only end up drinking half of the bottle while I’m there. Otherwise, I feel sick. Should I make a water-drinking schedule or something?2) How can I fix my gag reflex? It’s been bothering me ever since I was a little kid. I’ve never been able to swallow any pill bigger than a birth control pill. The one time that I tried to swallow an allergy pill, I cried and gagged on it in the H.E.B parking lot.3) I find it impossible to get down to the average weight, thanks to my constant snacking. How can I develop better eating habits?4) How can I develop better sleeping habits? I feel exhausted during the day, but wide awake at night, when it’s time for me to sleep. I can’t take naps during class; I’ve found that impossible, and I’ve never been able to.5) I constantly take pain relievers to help with the headaches. The headaches used to be because of sight problems, but that’s been fixed, so I’ve been at a loss. Could it be because I’m not drinking enough water? I’ve heard from various sources that it could be the main issue.6) What’s the acidic/bile feeling that I get in my throat several times a day? Is it because of the foods I’m eating?7) Also, I tend to get really bad gas throughout the day. What’s a good way of getting rid of it without medication? As some side notes, I’m turning seventeen on the first of April. If that helps you determine what’s wrong with me, that is. I’m five-foot-three (almost) and weigh 160 lbs, and I walk around a lot to get my exercise. I don’t have the means to go to a doctor, but if you really think that I need to see one, say so. I like to eat anything that I can just grab and go, so I know it can’t be that healthy. I enjoy drinking tea and milk, but I don’t drink much tea and I drink three glasses of milk a day. A: Hi!I don’t have answers to all of your questions, but hopefully i can help a little.1. Water – it’s really hard to drink 8 glasses of water a day. Do you drink other drinks throughout the day (eg tea, coffee, juice)? Drinking liquids such as juice or milk can help to increase your water intake as well as they have high water content and are sometimes much easier to stomach than water. (I know what you mean when you say too much water makes you feel sick!) Try to limit sugary or salty drinks and foods as they may dehydrate you, as well as being unhealthy. Also try and limit tea and coffee intake as they are diuretics and cause fluid loss in the body.2. Gag reflex – I too have a problem with swallowing tablets. It’s horrible. I think part of the problem is psychological, because you become anxious when you don’t swallow it the first time and you become convinced that you won’t be able to swallow it at all. Make sure to eat your food very slowly and chew it well before you attempt to swallow.As for your bile/stomach acid reflux, i reccommend trying an antacid after meals to prevent reflux. Reduce drinks like sodas. If these problem continues, it’s probably worth a trip to the doctor as they might be able to prescribe a medication as well as give you advice on your other problems. You may also have an abnormally shaped oesphageus which causes the difficult swallowing, but this is unlikely.3. Your gas problem is probably caused by the unhealthy snacks you are eating. A diet high in fibre, fruit, grains and vegetables is much less likely to give you gas than one full of fatty, sugary foods. Maybe try finding some healthier snack alternatives like dried fruit and nuts?Sorry for such a long reply! I hope some of this helps.
