Extremely bad stomach ache caused by period?
Q: I usually get stomach aches from my period, but twice I have gotten debilitating sever stomach aches. I know that the pain is actually from my uterus, but it feels like a stomach ache, except with added stabbing pains that aren’t quite cramps and lots and lots of pressure. I also felt my actual stomach ache as well though, and felt like I could have very well thrown up numerous times (but tried very hard not to…I hate vomiting and avoid it all the time). It was so bad that in any direction I moved in, even a centimeter, I would feel like I was dying. I couldn’t go to sleep because of the pain so there was no escape and it was pretty awful. I usually don’t complain about feeling sick but this is the worst pain I have ever been in, by far, and it’s excruciating. I felt my body get sweaty and I assume I got a fever. However I somehow calmed down (was tossing and turning and screaming on occasion due to frustration) and fell asleep somehow (I don’t even know, maybe I zoned out) and when I came to the pain had subsided…I took Motrin but I don’t think it was that as I took it two and a half hours prior and it should have worked long ago…So, is this normal? What can I do to treat it (medicine, natural remedies)? Or is this extreme pain worth telling my doctor? I’m only 15…Woah my bad I did not take Mortin, I took Imodium. And no, it did not work.
A: U should see a doc as you shouldn’t have pain this severe– I always had pain like this though just had to deal with it. If taking Motrin you need to know that 3 200 mg tablets equal one prescription strength. Make sure you tell your mom/dad what you are taking though and make sure it’s alright with them. I found Aleve works better and faster without making me feel bloated. Some of the stomach discomfort could be coming from the Motrin if you aren’t eating as well. Bad gas and stomach pains can happen from anti-inflammatories. Make sure you have crackers or something with the meds. My niece at your age had to go on oral contraceptives to help regulate hormones and keep cramps at a minimum due to missing so much school and sleep. My remedy was 1- take meds prior to starting as they work better, eat and no acidic foods, 2 – hot tea seemed to make them work better, 3 – heatiing pad on low or medium on stomach area, if this doesn’t work then see your doc to make sure you don’t have any other issues – I doubt anything serious but you can have cysts or similar non life threatening things that can make your periods really hard.
Pediatric Question 2 year old toddler – vomiting and complaining of stomach ache for months. Please help?
Q: I have a two and a half year old son who has been healthy from birth. For the past couple of months, he never wants to eat and complains on a daily basis of things like “I vomited but it didn’t come out” or “What did you put down my throat in my belly to make it hurt?” He gags a lot while trying to swallow food and will eventually vomit and sometimes vomits after eating. He usually vomits at least once a day. Took him 3Xs to the pediatrician who is giving him double doses of allergy meds (says he still has a lot of drainage) and acid reflux meds. He did blood work and the only thing that showed up was slightly low protein. Does anyone have any idea if I should look further into the situation or what could be causing it? I’ve been worrying so much but the dr. just reassures me that the medicine will take care of it. He has been taking the medicine for about 3 weeks and has been on the double dose of allergy medicine for a week still with no improvement.
A: Have they done an xray or MRI to look at his throat? Just a thought. What I originally thought was that maybe there is a food allergy. That can really upset him. I would check with an allergist, or dietician and see about food elimination/ slowly adding certain foods. That really could upset his stomach and throat. And what about too much medicine. Sometimes all those pills are really nauseating.
