Rat Symptoms – Possible H1N1 victim ?
Q: Motley [my female, 1 yr old standard fancy rat] has been sneezing the past month, but she seemed otherwise fine. [Yes, I am aware that sneezing is a symptom of Myco]Two days ago, she suddenly took a very sharp turn for the worse; she was hunched over, her fur was puffy, and her cheeks seemed bigger.Yesterday, she started to choke on a slice of almond. I held her upside-down [not entirely, but enough to free whatever was in her throat] and stroked her chest and stomach. She was still coughing and wheezing and nothing came out.I tried to hold her mouth open to look in her throat and I noticed that there was a white creamy/frothy substance in her mouth around her cheeks and in her throat. I wasn’t sure what it was, but my dad guessed that it was probably just saliva because of coughing and everything. After a while, she relaxed as if her throat was clear, but she was still wheezing and occasionally coughing. I put her back in her cage, to see if she was okay. I watched her for a while; she sat in a corner, hunched up, her eyes half-closed. She was eating and drinking like normal, but she still seemed as if something was bothering her.Today I started her on her medicine but she doesn’t seem to have improved.Possible sickness/ailments:1. It just occurred to me today that she could have gotten the H1N1 [swine flu] virus. It is transmittable to animals, and we think my dad had it a week or two ago.2. A Myco flare up, easily solved by antibiotics prescribed from the vet. Problem is, I have no money for the vet and my parents won’t pay for it.3. The almond slice she had been choking on is still in her throat, causing her discomfort. Please do not suggest to me to go to the vet. That has already been suggested, but I can’t take her to the vet. It is not possible, unless you know of a vet that just hands out antibiotics and medicines and does check-ups for free. The reason why I am so worried is that she is getting just like Risa was when she was dying [RIP Risa, July 21st].Possible factors to consider:-From the 9th to the 15th, I was away. I left the rat with a friend of mine. She seemed fine [other than the sneezing, which wasn’t bad then] when I dropped her off, and she seemed skinnier and livelier when I picked her up [she was still sneezing, though].-On the 25th, I bought a new rat. She is six weeks old. I’ve introduced them and they get along great. The baby is healthy, too, as far as I can tell [no visible signs of health problems]. They don’t stay in the same cage yet, just to be on the safe side, but they do get along great. Since Motley’s gotten sick, I have not let Cairo [the new baby] and Motley interact.-I take horse riding lessons. When I get home, I still smell like a horse and have the germs on my hands. I usually greet the rat through the bars of the cage, sometimes petting her, and then I go to have a shower. It could be possible that the horses have [through me] transmitted germs to Motley.-The medicine I am giving her is nothing complicated; Wet-Tail Plus Antibiotic Fizz-Tablets [company: Oasis]Any help would be appreciated. Please DO NOT suggest I take them to the vet… I can’t. Right now, it’s an impossibility.–fyreThe bedding I use is Aspen, and I use it in small quantities as it isn’t exactly warm and nice for sleeping in. To help her with bedding, I use shredded paper towel and some fluffy bedding stuff. When Risa was sick, I gave her the Wet-Tail medicine and it helped her for a little while. It extended her life by… a month, two months? Thanks for your advice and help. If you have any other suggestions for caring for the baby rat, please let me know. I don’t want her getting sick either, but I can’t exactly lock Motley away in solitary because she’s sick. I haven’t let them visit each other, and I try not to handle Cairo after handling Motley [germs on my hands].–fyreQuestion… You said to feed her oatmeal. Should I just give her the grains as they come, or should I boil them and strain them so they are softer..?It has been pointed out that rats cannot get Wet-Tail. My Aunt works at a pet store and she was the one that suggested the medicine; she said it had antibiotics and electrolytes that would help a bit.Is there any harm done by me giving Motley the Wet-Tail medicine? Will it make her sicker or something? Thanks a bunch for all your answers, though. Much appreciated.–fyreUnfortunately, I cannot just buy Amoxicillin over the counter; it has to be a prescribed drug. As I cannot afford a vet, I cannot get the prescription.Any other suggestions? =/–fyre
A: I don’t think that H1N1 can be passed to rats. The only virus that I know can be passed from rat to human or vice versa, is the strep virus. If she was sneezing she has probably been carrying the Myco infection as long as you have had her, it is usually passed from mother to baby at birth. Most rats will not show symptoms even though almost all rats have it. The problem is the Myco infection leaves a rat vulnerable to secondary infections, usually pneumonia. The wheezing is a definite symptom. If you cannot afford a vet you may want to try to call your local humane society and explain your rat is sick and you can not take her to the vet. If that does not work you can go to almost any pet store and pick up amoxicillin in the fist dept. If you need help dosing the tablets you can email me at [email protected]. Another thing you can try is to set up a humidifier by her cage to loosen up the mucus in her chest and lungs. If you don’t have a humidifier put her in a small cage or travel bag and take her into the bathroom when you take a shower. The hot steam will work almost as well as a humidifier will. You can also give her a chocolate chip every other day or so. Chocolate contains antioxidants that can help her immune system fight the infection.Good luck with your baby. I hope she is feeling better soon.
Would you ever balk at learning sign language? And why?
Q: i think its beautiful…and a skill that everyone should be proud to learn.. Thu, Oct 22 08:16 PM As governments rush to roll out mass vaccinations programmes against H1N1 swine flu, one man in eastern France has launched his own campaign to limit its spread — use sign language. Temporarily replacing the French custom of kissing cheeks with simple greetings in sign language would reduce physical contact, said Hubert Chalet, who co-founded Fais-Moi Signe (Give me a Sign), an association for people with impaired hearing. “What if we substituted cheek-kissing and handshakes with an imaginative and colourful language such as sign language?” Chalet told Reuters by phone from Nantes in western France. He recommends that television news programmes broadcast the sign language for simple phrases such as “Hello”, “Goodbye”, “How are you?” and “Are you sick?”. These phrases could then be used in group situations, he said, for example when an office worker needs to greet a group of colleagues and remove the need for “banal handshakes which are not always enthusiastic”. Promoting sign language would also help to bring the hearing and hearing-impaired worlds closer together, Chalet added. While some may balk at the idea of learning sign language, Chalet suggests that hearing-impaired adults could be usefully employed in schools and firms to help teach the basics. “There are enough specialised institutions … across France to spread the basic rules of sign language,” he said, adding, “I’m allowed to dream, no?”. http://in.news.yahoo.com/137/20091022/778/tod-use-sign-language-to-help-fight-swin.html

Is the WHO planning on taking over Canada and forcing vaccines?
Q: This is a lengthy article — read it for yourself — but here are the highlights http://preventdisease.com/news/09/092309_mandatory_vaccinations_Canada.shtmlAfter recent reports that Canada’s public health officials are engaged in cover-up operations to conceal flu origin, there is now evidence and growing concerns and that all the warnings, dire predictions and preparations for the H1N1 swine flu are leading to mandatory vaccinations under the guise of “voluntary cooperation” initiatives from Canadian health agencies.Under the WHO charter determined in 2005, it has the authority to dissolve Canada’s government policies on emergency planning, mandatory vaccinations and to take control should there be a “pandemic”. This applies to any country signed onto the WHO.When it comes to the legal framework under the WHO, PHAC has absolutely no details or restrictions in terms of who will administer the inoculations and how. This means that once WHO pandemic policies are enacted, it could allow non-healthcare personnel, such as police and military to vaccinate people against their will to enforce mandatory vaccinations”Canada is deceiving the public and promoting a whole new dimension of voluntary cooperation for vaccines,” said Margaret Sauvé, a nurse and medical administrator from Montreal, Quebec. “If this is their idea of voluntary cooperation, I would really hate to see what a mandatory policy would look like, because we have no choice if we want to keep our jobs” she added.————————— Now please read this as well http://www.theflucase.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=647%3Alen-horowitz-files-pandemic-charges-against-rockefeller&catid=1%3Alatest-news&Itemid=64〈=enDr. Leonard G. Horowitz and Sherri Kane, an investigative journalist, have released evidence in legal affidavits that leaders of a private global biotechnology “trust” are behind the pandemic flu, including its origin and alleged prevention via vaccinations. Their documents, being sent by attorneys to the FBI this week, evidence industrialists are operating a crime ring within the “Partnership for New York City” (PNYC), and are behind the pandemic’s creation, media persuasions, vaccination preparations, and health official promotions.Among the revelations from the Horowitz-Kane research are those linking Larry Silverstein of Silverstein Properties, Inc., and the 9-11 terrorist attacks, to the drug cartel’s geopolitical, economic, and population reduction activities. Mr. Silverstein, leaser of the World Trade Center who authorized to have Building-7 “pulled” [detonated] is a chief suspect in the “9-11 truth” investigation. Silverstein is currently landlord and co-partner in the biotechnology trust founded by David Rockefeller and implicated by these new discoveries.Given the unprecedented nature and urgency of these findings, Dr. Horowitz has posted his affidavit for public review on FLUscam.com, hoping wide spread dissemination will prompt governments worldwide to cease mass vaccination preparations to avoid becoming accessories
A: This is a good possibility. Unfortunately it’s compounded by the fact that PM Stephen Harper, loves to support foreign schemes to compromise Canadian sovereignty. A stand up PM would fight the WHO and anybody else who tried to impose regulations that could potentially harm his/her citizens
