Chances of getting the Swine Flu?
Q: OK during the weekend me and my family went up to a friends house but they never told us that the kid they were watching was sick (or we would a never went) so when we got there we found out and i said is it the Swine Flu and they said nope so we stayed there for like 5-8 hours and we were in the same room as the kid now we go home and in the morning they bring the kid home and they come over and say they brought him to the doctor that night and he had Swine Flu. Now they stay over at our house for a few hours and say don’t worry were not infected (im thinking in my head how would you know the symptoms don’t just hit you like that) and know yesterday they call us and tell us that there sick. So what are the chances of me getting sick? BTW i went to the doctor on Monday cuz ive been having breathing problems for the last month or so and they took X Rays so if i caught the swine on Saturday and got X Rays on Monday would it show up? Hopefully you will understand this and be able to answer my questions because im freaking out right now about getting the Swine Flu.
A: First of all you need to calm down. Stress alone can help effect the immune system so it doesn’t work up to it’s potential. The swine flu alone will not show up in any x-ray. What will show up is if you get a secondary illness like pneumonia from the swine flu. You should have told the doctor what you went through. A simple blood test would have told him and you if it was swine. I highly doubt if you caught any illness at all as you would already have cold like symptoms, nausea, vomiting, fever etc. The swine flu virus will effect anyone within 24-48 hours after coming in contact with it. Just keep track of any unusual feelings of illness and then go to the doctor asap after. You can always call the doctors office and ask for a blood test for swine flu too. Good luck and God Bless
what are the chances I’ve got swine flu?
Q: So I’m aware that people are getting a bit annoyed with all the swine flu talk but I would just like people, whenever knowledge on the infection to answer my question, thank you.On Tuesday I met up with my best friend. We went for a meal and then I stayed over in her house, during the time I was with her we shared a milkshake (same straw) and I slept in her bed. Now she was feeling somewhat under the weather; tired, slightly sick and had a cough. However because she’d just got back from a festival that weekend, we just thought it was due to lack if sleep and too much drinking. She then phoned me on the Wednesday evening and said that her and three other friends who went to the Festival had come down with Swine Flu. So I wasn’t thinking about myself but my friends health instead, however today I’ve had a slight cough and (embarrassingly) a bit of diarrhea but because I don’t eat properly I do on the odd occasion get it. Now I’ve spoken with my dad who is a GP but because he is my dad and I haven’t spoken with him since yesterday Im still unsure, though he did say there was a 30% chance in which I could get it. So can anyone give me some more help/advice?Thank you
A: The chances are definitely there since you were in close contact with your friend. I would believe your Dad is right. From recent experience (my 13 year old son contracted swine flu in May), I can tell you that you if you develop swine flu, some of the more prominent symptoms will appear pretty quickly. In my son those symptoms were: a fever that literally came from nowhere and spiked pretty high, joint aches, extreme exhaustion, vomiting, severe diarrhea and sore throat. From what you mentioned, I think you’re going to be okay. If you don’t develop any other symptoms in the next 24 hours, count yourself lucky. Swine flu is just pretty nasty to go through but it ran its course very quickly (24 hours in my son’s case). I hope you really don’t have to go through that though. Good luck.
can i still get the flu even though i got my flu shot?
Q: well the bf came over today and he has the flu. i really dnt like being sick so i said w/e cause i got my flu shot so ill just go along with it. we made out and stuff and hes sick so i was wonderin if i could still get sick, i feel kinda like i feel the begining of it but i was already kidna feeling like this b4 i saw him so yea. i kno that the shot isnt fool proof but i just wanted to kno what r my chances of getting sick
A: Yes. They pick the 3 strains of flu that they think will be most common during the coming season and put those (dead ones) into the shot. You can still get the 4th most common strain. Sometimes they predict wrong. It happens. Still, the shot should lessen the impacts somewhat.
