A: Really cleaning is all that you can do, and keep him away from all the other kids who have been affected.
How do you know if your baby got the flu?
Q: My husband got it on Sunday 3/2, our 3 year old daughter got only a cold and seems to be doing fine. I thought I wasn’t going to get it but got it on Tuesday night 3/4. My husband and I saw the doctor on Tuesday afternoon, he prescribed Tamiflu for my husband and gave us a refill in case I got it too which I did. But said there was nothing to give a one year old child. He examined him, listen to his lungs, saw his throat and ears and said he just has a cold but my baby has been getting worse and I’m not sure it’s “just a cold” anymore. The main difference between the flu and a cold is when your whole body aches, right? but how can a baby let you know this? he doesn’t have a fever and doesn’t have a cough but he seems off in many ways… apetite is still good though. Just not playful, really tired, cranky and clingy, wants to sleep all the time. What do you think?
A: I just got over the worst flu in which I had a fever for 6 days and felt horrible. Sure enough my 9month old followed in my footsteps. It started with a cold -then fever, then vomitting for 6 days…it was horrible!! I was at the pediatricians almost everyday for one week. We both were put on Biaxin antibiotics and had a terrible and very productive cough for 2 weeks. She is still on meds but now but is eating and back to herself again…what a horrible ordeal. Mine was very lethargic, inappetant, did not produce wet diapers, cranky, snotty, coughing up phlem then vomitting and just plain miserable not to mention so was I!!I cold mist humidified her room and tried to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate….let her sleep as much as she needed and gave her lots of hugs and kisses under my mask…..I was a pretty sight…not to mention that my husband was away on business all that week…..thank god for my mother! You never know what they have…..keep an eye on his symptoms and if you are worried don’t be afraid to see your doctor or get second opinions….I did just in case!!Hope all gets better!!
How old was your baby when you took him out in public?
Q: My dr. Recrommended when he is 6-8 weeks old only because he will have his vaccines by 8 weeks, but did you take your newborn baby out in public sooner then that? I know its flu season and its only 3 more weeks until my baby is 2 months to get his shots…but sometimes i want to go to the store with my husband and babay, and not leave them here and visa versa…its never cold here i live in AZ, and no one would come up to our baby and try to touch it becasue me and my boyfriend are tattooed head to toe, so people get intimidated by us… plus im 6ft, and my bf is 6’5…so everyone thinks were scary and were not..but if thats the reason we shouldnt take him out because people try to touch him, i think were safe!
A: Lol, I think you’re fine. Just keep him clothed and wearing a lightweight hat if it’s warm enough. I live in PA and my daughter was born Dec. 14th last year and we took her to her paternal grandmothers for a week for christmas. And because I let my boyfriend navigate, the three hour car ride became 7 1/2. Lol, she was only 10 days old and she was fine. She didn’t get sick until her first ear infection at 4 months old. And she hasn’t been sick since, cept she’s got croup at the moment and she’s 10 mo. old now, so she’s doing just fine. And as for strangers not approaching, good luck. My boyfriend is 7 ft and 450+ lbs with tatoos and piercings and I’m almost 6 ft myself, and all sorts of people stop to talk to my daughter. People can’t resist, lol. Good luck!
