Bird Flu. Can it Kill Humans ????
Q: Can Bird Flu Kill Humans ???Ok I got my answers now. Now I no the worry about it . =PTy All who helped me =P
A: How can humans get bird flu? While this is uncommon, people can get infected with bird flu. Between 2003 and 2004, there have been a little over 300 documented cases of bird flu in humans. People can get bird flu the same way as birds i.e. by contact with nasal secretions, feathers, droppings or cages of infected birds. Therefore, most cases of people getting bird flu have been when they have had close contact with infected birds (such as keeping chickens at home or slaughtering and de-feathering infected chickens)When the bird strain of influenza infects people, it causes a very severe illness in which less than a third of those infected will live. If treated early more people survive, however, half of the patient still die.An additional fear is that the strain of bird flu will ‘combine’ with the strain of human influenza allowing human to human spread to occur more easily. If this occurs then a world-wide epidemic (pandemic) of influenza is predicted
If the bird flu were to reach North America, how many people would it kill? How do you protect yourself&others
Q: What can we do to protect ourselves against the Avian Flu which has officially begun to infect humans? How many will die?
A: by consulting doctors and taking vaccinations
The Swine Flu. Do you know what it is? What are your thoughts on it?
Q: This swine flu is airborne, it is a mixture of the bird flu(the most deadly), the swine flu(pig flu) and the human flu. Before the flu was only passed from pigs to people, other people could not get it from the infected person, but now the virus has mutated and it can be passed from person to person. It is a respiratory flu. And we humans have no immunity to it because we have never been exposed to it before. And the people with stronger immune systems will suffer the most because their bodies will go into overload. So don’t think that just because you have a good immune system you wont get sick. The last pandemic started in mexico. And was a mixture of the swine, human, and bird flu. It killed 50 million world wide and 20 million in the US. And doctors and scientists have been saying for years that the next outbreak will be much worse. The last pandemic we had was from 1918-1919. Right now this wine flu has killed 149 people in mexico and sickened more the 1500. $0 people have been infected in the US. I am not saying to go paranoid here, just to prepare. But you don’t want to panic. This may turn out to be nothing. But it may turn out to be something, and I feel people should be prepared. What are your thoughts on it?
A: The last flu pandemic started in Hong Kong in 1968. It killed about one million people worldwide, and about 34,000 in the US. Most of these people were elderly. My thought is that people focus on the negative. The Spanish flu of 1918, was before antiviral medications, mechanical respirators, and flu shots. The Spanish flu consisted of a small outbreak in the spring and a larger, more serious one in the winter. If you want to assume that this strain of flu will be the same as the Spanish one, fine. But we will have a vaccine against swine flu by winter, preventing a second outbreak from occurring.
