What should i eat the day before and what for breakfast the day of my run?
Q:
A: Unless you’re on a severely caloric restricted diet, you shouldn’t actually change your diet that much before your run. The last thing you want is an upset stomach or gastro-intestinal distress before or during your run because you overdid it on the dietary intake or made big changes to your diet at the last minute. The idea of carbo-loading before a competitive event is old school and has little basis in science. If your diet is consistent, you’re liver and muscles will have all the glycogen stores they can possibly handle as it is, so adding to that will not help you and may even hamper your efforts.Of course, you do want something to fuel your run so stick with the complex carbs for breakfast. Three hours before your run have a whole food meal – this will allow the meal time to digest and enter your bloodstream for energy. If you want, before your run have a small piece of fruit and some water, and have a decent sports drink during the run if it’s long enough. Personally, I can’t have too much on my stomach during a run because I am prone to bad side stitches, but that’s me.

Q: Every other day I go for a 30 min. run, 4 times a week.I would really like to know what kind of foods and snacks I should eat before running and after. How should it all be? Carbs before and protein after? If so, then do you think I should have some bread or cereal before and peanut butter after? I’m in doubt with the peanut butter after, because I heard that you shouldn’t have anything that has salt after a run. Peanut butter is full of it! lolI tend to have some plain yogurt with honey or cereal after, is this enough, is this what I should be doing, should I not have the cereal after?Should there be some type of carb after (like cereal)?I’m really curious to know all of this, I want to do it all right and how it should be!
A: Before you run its best to eat something light. i ususally like to eat a banana. its a good source of energy too. if you want carbs you need to eat them 3-4 hours b4 you run. carbs take a lot of time for our body to process. a carb afterward might be a good idea. it will give you more energy for later in the day. but after a run, it is important to make sure you are full. Good Luck!
