A: Besides right diet and hard word you need to increase the amount of tempo runs and speed work in general. Remember that intervals between activity and recovery are the key to success, the more you recover (two days a week is ideal) the more you endure and the faster you get. Now, it is also important to work your legs strenght (lift weights once a week) and super-important: flexibility. Stretch, stretch and stretch…yoga helps a whole lot (once a week at least) so your leg muscles, tendons, ligaments get used to wider/longer movements and you can become a better-faster runner with an amazing recovery range and of course it helps to reduce the risk of injuries too!

Q: I have to run a mile for PE tomorrow and I can’t run worth CRAP!!! I need to know what to do to become a better runner and I need to be able to run long distances for short amounts of time. HELP ME!!!
A: There’s no way to become MUCH better in one day, but there are ways you can acheive your best case scenario:1. Get a nice sleep the night before, and DON’T practice running (because then tomorrow you would be tired and sore)2. Eat breakfast- eggs and toast are good (carbs and protein are what you’re after)3. Make sure to keep yourself hydrated through the day, but don’t drink liquids with alot of sugar or caffeine (water is good, fruit punch and coffee are bad. 4. Right before you run, don’t drink too much water, you don’t want cramping.5. If you are running with classmates, pick someone decent and try to pace them.6. When your lungs start to hurt, slow down or walk, but don’t stop completely unless you feel that you may faint. Try not to let the person you are trying to pace get too much ahead of you.
